Carl Davis Impressing at Senior Bowl

Several sources reporting on the Senior Bowl have said that no one has helped their draft stock more than Carl Davis. He's been nearly impossible to block, and has outshone top 10 prospect Danny Shelton. He could easily move up to the later half of the first round.

Congrats, Carl. Go get yours!

He was just awarded the practice player of the week. http://www.seniorbowl.com/news-highlights-detail.php?news=281

Looks like the Hawks might have 2 first round picks from this years team. Sounds like an awesome team.

Side note, UNI's David Johnson won running back of the week.

Glad for Carl. And Johnson was the real deal... who began as a 2-star ATH from Clinton with offers from only UNI and Illinois State. Iowa was not the only team that missed him. And if we HAD signed him, I can see the boards now: "great, another 2-star nobody wanted...."

Also seemed like he was fairly regularly double-teamed. He's not being double-teamed at these Senior Bowl practices.

LTP is the man, but the reason he put up such gaudy numbers has a lot to do with how much attention Davis attracted. Scouts are actually saying he might fit better as a 3-4 DE.

He will likely fall a bit before draft day, we still have combine and pro day etc. to get through. I think he should be a 2nd rounder however.

Doesn't Big Carl's body transformation pretty much invalidate the "replace Doyle" thread?

Yes. At this point, an Iowa player is worth their strength and conditioning, and their interior line technique. Getting rid of one of the positives would only create more negatives.

reason? You think he will only put up 5 reps of 225 lbs. at the combine? Pro day is such a controlled environment it is hard to screw that up. I do not see him falling at all. He is probably better suited as a 3 technique in a 4-3, but I can see a team that uses a 3-4 roll the dice and having him play over center. Interior D-linemen are so valuable I think he gets into the late first round.

I can see that the Steelers for a long time had Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel at DE and they were so good at eating up blocks it allowed the Steeler outside linebackers to get after the QB.....Just blow **** up in the running game. With LTP's motor I can definitely see him being that guy just eating up blocks.

Davis even before the year was a borderline first rounder. He's just showing what he's got now. It just depends on how the draft falls and the needs of the teams. There are maybe 2 other DTs that could get taken ahead of him but more then likely he'll be the 2nd one off the board. If he's taken within the first 2 rounds it won't be a surprise. I just hope he goes to a good fit. I've seen Scherff being possibly taken by Washington or NY Giants... I'm not crazy about either of those two teams for him. I'm a 49er fan but I think MN or Chicago would be way better fits for him. I see him wanting to be closer to home....

That's nice. I wish he would have impressed at the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Just sayin...............

That's nice. I wish you understood the difference between one on one drills and the double teams he saw in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Just sayin................

I said it before the year that I thought Davis ends up as a better pro than Adrian Clayborn.

I don't mean to call out Clayborn... although they don't play the same position, he's just a way to benchmark being the last Hawkeye DL drafted on the first day.

Yea this year was really going to be Clayborns make or break year I thought but then he got hurt early and didn't play.... So far he hadn't set the world on fire that's for sure. I'll be curious to see how both their careers go. So far ole Daniels is the one tearing it up in the big leagues. Klug has had more then a cup of coffee too. But I bet most would agree that it wouldn't surprise me if he Davis stays healthy he can have a long good career much like Colin Cole has had.

I'm hearing the GB Packers may go after Carl with their first pick. That would make 3 defensive players on their roster, wouldn't that be impressive on MNF when the players say what university they played for.
