Off the field, he's got responsibilities as a student athlete. I assume he's taking care of the student part.
As for the things that he *can* do as higher profile student athlete, he's sure doing that too:

Now, I'm not one to believe that intrinsic motivation exists, and that it tends to be measurable directly in proportion with shared DNA (you're far more willing to jump in front of the bus to save your sister, than the stranger). I can't speak to his motivation. It seems rather selfless in terms of the extent and under-the-radar efforts he's put forth.
