In the end, the lure of the Big 10 was too much for Jordan Canzeri to turn down...
...so he didn't.
At about 9:40pm tonight, Canzeri made the call to Iowa and gave the Hawkeyes his verbal committment. He is scheduled to sign his national letter of intent tomrorow morning in a signing ceremony at Troy High School. The ceremony is weather permitting. The signing isn't.
"Along with the football and the fantastic stadium, I really liked the coaching staff," Canzeri told us tonight. "They really believed in me."
Canzeri had originally given his verbal committment to Villanova. But moments after doing that, Iowa called with an offer. Then, UConn followed Iowa with a scholarship deal for Canzeri to consider.
He visited the Iowa campus this past weekend and was very impressed with what he saw.
"The facilities are second to none," said Jordan's dad Brian. "Plus, he really made a connection with the coaches, especially Coach (Kirk) Ferentz,' said Jordan's dad Brian.
Canzeri will join Rensselear grad Kenny Plue in the Big 10 football ranks. Plue, a 6-7, 358lb offensive lineman, will be a senior at Purdue.
Canzeri ran for 2048 yards and 36 touchdowns in helping Troy to the Carrier Dome this past season. In addtional to being the FOX23 player of the year, he was a Class AA first team all-state selection.
