We play down to our competition because of the inherent fear the program breeds in making mistakes. Becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

They will play tough against Michigan and MIchigan St but that misses the point. Risk takers are success makers and Ferentz at his core is a control-freak who breeds fear in his players, rather than coaching them to achieve above and beyond what they thought they could.

I'll take Beliema, who is a Hawk and will always be a Hawk.

We need to find something different. You are very correct in saying "fear the program breeds". People are always saying Iowa don't beat themselves... but they DO! They always run out the clock by taking knees instead of putting points on the board before the half. They let teams score on them if they are patient. They are never ready for even obvious fake punts, fake kicks, etc. They play the Cyclones and Gophers the same as they do Ohio State/Michigan.
Today's loss to the Gophers was unbelievable. It was a HUGE upset.... a no reason for it upset. Not slighting the Gophers here, but two years in a row? I am certain some fans just simply think the Gophers are the better team. Especially those that don't know much about football.
It is time to move on... we can't continue to allow Iowa State and Minnesota to beat us in football.

I agree we play down to competiton. As JD has mentioned many times on this site, we have a very fine line between winning and losing. Inferior teams that take risks will sometimes beat us. I don't agree with all the game plans we sometimes have but we reap what we sow.

When you have a back run for nearly 300 yards you are better the competition.

No, it is about exerting your will and not playing from a place of fear. That's how you end up playing within a score of basically every team you play - which is what Iowa does.
