Coach or coaches/coordinators. We've heard the same ole' points in multiple threads so I won't list all the reasons.
How does a team coming off a bye week have a performance like that we saw Saturday night? How can a team get beat in EVERY aspect of a game? I realize that some years a team may be depleted at a certain position such as WR, etc., but still could put up some decent running numbers, or vise versa. How can a team be bad in all aspects of offense? 30 some yards rushing!!? Really?
Iowa's offense is bad in the trenches, in the backfield and to the outside. HOW? It probably comes down to the trenches, but, you supposedly have one of the best offensive line guru's in the nation! It's not just that they are bad, it that they brought back depth from a regular season undefeated team last year.
Much of it has to be the predictability factor with this staff, hence, why experienced players are not succeeding on plays. I don't care how good they are with their form and footwork, it the other team knows the handful of plays that you always run or what plays you are checking in to, you will get beat on the play.
This is what you get when you throw a bunch of 2*, 3* and walk-ons that you've "developed". I'm not saying there aren't the diamond in the rough 2-3 stars or walk-ons who surprise and succeed, but when you litter your entire roster with said 2-3* and walk-ons, you get what you saw last Saturday. You COULD CLEARLY see a speed issue on the field, both offense and defense, more alarming on defense. Speed KILLS, also when you don't have it!
You can develop players all you want. When you watch Iowa football, you watch the form and footwork of the players, along with the zone blocking scheme and say "Wow, they are really disciplined with terrific form", but it all doesn't matter if you don't have the horses to keep up with the opposing talent.
KF is a perfectionist which may be his largest obstacle as a successful coach. He has difficulty putting players on the field that he doesn't deem has the perfect technique or best downfield blocking. Talented players don't see the field unless they are perfect. This often causes teams to play tight.
So pawns, YOU CAN'T HIDE YOUR COACH IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL!
