can't have defensive regressions

Wasn't Lickliter ran out of town for focusing on defense and not putting an "entertaining" offense on the floor?

Maybe. More likely:

#1--lack of wins
#2--lack of team/program progression
#3--lack of recruiting
#4--lack of making AAU connections

4 feeds into 3, which feeds into 2, which feeds into 1

Thats part of it. Oglesby and Marble going underneath screens is absolutely ridiculous. Thats **** you dont even do in high school. It never gets corrected, they keep doing it!!!!!

This shows a lack of knowledge. There are certain defenses and coaches that actually coach to go under screens. It is commonly used when the guy you are defending is a quicker athlete than you. Longer athletes are sometimes told to do this because it can help stop penetration and their length can allow them to still contest the shot. I would say that they are coached to go under screens depending on the team they are facing, guy they are guarding or the defense they are using. This is similar as the common defense where players don't deny the pass around the 3 pt arc. Because it allows them to help on the drive and clog the lane more.

There is no way in hell they were coached to go underneath screens to trey Burke and Hardaway or any other good perimeter player. Jesus h christ.

Prove to me they weren't and I will believe you. There are multiple defenses and ways to coach defense. Iowa is not a great defensive team and fran doesn't seem to be a great defensive coach, but unless you are in on practice you have no idea what his philosophy or how he has coached them to play. When coached correctly and executed correctly going under screens can be effective against teams that are trying to penetrate. Thinking there is only one way to do something proves a lack of understanding. For instance if you or I or anyone on this board tried to guard trey burke by going over a screen we would be watching the back of his jersey as he gets to the rim. It is the same as that some teams teach switching on screens and other variants of defending in the man to man defense.

Iowa is usually able to hide their defensive deficiencies against unathletic teams, but Michigan was just too athletic for them to guard. Michigan might be too athletic for anyone to guard. They're a nightmare for a very young team playing their first real road test of the year.

Who that is very good has Iowa hid their defensive weaknesses from?

A not so good defensive team that struggles shooting 3's. Good combination?

When did Lickliter's team play defense? I mean aside from when they were on offense of course (if you count never shooting the basketball as a form of defense)

Throw the young part out of the game, Michigan plays 5 freshman, but the difference is, they have the best PG in the country, oh but he is a sophomore. Michigan has no Senior contributors, they are one of the youngest teams in the nation. Oh yeah, they have a lot of talent and athleticism to go with that youth.

While true, Michigan hasn't had to climb out of possibly their worst program-chasm, if they've even had one.
(Can't overstate, IMO, how poor the Iowa program was and how fast it was derailing)

What FM has done in 2 years is amazing.

Give it some time and Iowa will (and I hate to say this, but it fits).....be back.

Exactly.....Look at what Tom Crean has done @ Indiana....They were down for a long time and now he's got that program back...With a few more wins (and a winning attitude) Iowa will be ok....Fran and Staff will need to keep pounding the pavement and steal a few recruits and continue to sell the Iowa program and we will be just fine
