....stop forever the "have Mike Gesell dribble around for 25 seconds and then drive with nowhere to go and brick a layup" offense in the final 2 minutes of a close game? Is it too much to ask? Please? In the name of all that's decent and holy?
 
We will be a better program when this senior class graduates. Sadly, I'm not sure we have anyone who can recruit better players to replace them.

I feel like we will lose more games next year but it will be less frustrating to watch if that makes sense.

I get Uthoff didn't close the game but lay off him a bit as he single handily put us in the position we were in to win the game in the first half.

On the other hand we have Mike who made a layup in the last 2 minutes but dont let him off the hook because of one basket late when he was bad for 30 of the 35 minutes he played.

Who cares? It's still a loss, would rather he didn't show up in the first half either if he was just going to disappear when it really mattered.
 
I don't get why coaches don't get why dribbling around and wasting time almost never results in a good look at the basket when you have to start your offense with less than 10 seconds left on the shot clock.
 
Can we somehow finish a game, this is going to be Iowa's m.o. down the stretch, game was in hand with less than 2 minutes, only to have Niang, Matty Lite and Co come thru in the end......Can we rebound? No...Can we play hard-nosed "D"? No, does anyone on Iowa wanna win? No, Is this Frans fault? No, it's on the team b/c they c/n execute.....poor display in the 2nd half, 20 point lead, and no leadership at all.....Screw ISU, #4 my a$$, this was all on Iowa, from start finish, plain and f&&king simple

Have to somewhat agree with this. I'm guessing Fran has instructed to run clock, but why does that mean to stop running the offense? In Gesell's defense on some of those plays, he did try and set up Uthoff but he declined to shoot, pump faked and just gave it right back to Mike. Uthoff also botched that inbound pass bad. He had the pass, but tried to pull it back. The mentality of an athlete can be fascinating cause Uthoff really did turtle in that second half despite a monumental first half.
 
As long as MG is the point guard, we are going to have little success late in games. Especially against athletic teams. At least he finally made two clutch free throws though. It makes me almost forget about the reverse lay up alley oop pass 100 mph off the glass that no one saw coming.
