Can we finally end the Orange Bowl watershed BS talk?

For all you KF supporters I still read how the 2010 Orange Bowl victory was such a bonanza for Iowa football and KF's resume. This includes you JonMiller. Like this somehow justifies the crap we have seen the past few years.

The Orange Bowl is just as meaningless and irrelevant as the Meinike Car Bowl. This year's game was further evidence. In case you have forgotten here are the participants in the past several years. Not exactly the Nebraska/Oklahoma vs. Miami/Florida St. matchups of years past.

How did that vaunted Orange Bowl victory against an overrated ACC team propel our program to greater heights?

What would have been a watershed moment for Iowa football would have been if KF had suddenly grown a pair 36 days earlier and gone for a victory in regulation against Ohio St. in Columbus. IF he had tried, and IF we had won, then winning a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl berth would have been noteworthy. Beating Georgia Tech in a meaningless bowl was not.

I think I am still smarting that KF lost out on his final shot for an NFL gig. Like that was ever going to happen. Never believed the hype, even years ago. And continuing to hear his name linked to NFL jobs just reminds me how his agent ginned that up and how Barta's giveaway doesn't expire until 2020. &*%$*#!

End Rant.

Awesome. I'm with you 100%, my brother.
Anyone defending a55hole ferentz in 2013 ought to be excommunicated from the Hawkeye tribe. Especially the tavern hokks.

Yeah, they should have refused that bowl game. Pathetic win that one was.

Never suggested they should have refused to participate.

Kudos to the players and coaches for winning A bowl game.

It briefly made us feel good but what did it prove? Absolutely nothing. It clearly wasn't a sign of where our program was headed.

I just get tired of people putting such exaggerated emphasis on that one victory, especially when touted on KF's resume.

If so many fans and KF supporters think that victory was so monumental then why does it not make our performance the past three years an even bigger indictment against KF?

Don't be fooled because it claims to be a BCS bowl. It is meaningless. It is, and has been, a crap bowl for several years. It was in 2010 as well.

Two different arguments friend. Yes we were great that night and yes we suck now. Don't let the state of the program now take away from a great performance that night? I want KF gone also but not to the point that I'm willing to diminish the only true great moment of the last few years?

Can't argue with the fact that the victory did not seem to do anything positive for the program on the field. Can't argue with the fact that the match-ups are relatively unappealing. However, being in that group of teams that have won or participated in the Orange Bowl recently doesn't seem to put us in too bad of company. Out of 14 slots, only 3 were filled by programs that are not traditionally strong (WF, Kansas, and NIU...although the Huskies are a traditionally strong "mid major" team).

It was. BCS bowl win and they beat the ACC champion. This years Orange Bowl proves nothing as they were forced to take NIU. The ACC has done well in the post season with a 4-2 record and a win over LSU.

It is not just the 2013 Orange Bowl that is meaningless. All bowl games are meaningless. The Orange Bowl is especially overrated and has been for several years. There is only one postseason game that matters and next year's champion will finally have more credibility.

How a conference fares over the course of the season is more indicative of its strength than one game. One game following a thirty-plus day layoff in some instances.

You want to know how good the ACC was this year? Forget their bowl record. Read this instead.

Have you watched any meaningless bowl games since then? I bet you have. These games are meaningless that you are ranting about them. Guess they aren't so meaningless after all. Or maybe you're just trolling.

That guy hinges almost his entire argument on 4 regular season games against the SEC. How is that any different than hinging an argument on the bowl games (in which Clemson beat LSU, too).

Saying all bowl games are meaningless is pretty shortsighted. Of course they have meaning. Winning the Rose Bowl is pretty much always a good thing for your program. Beating a top 10 team is never meaningless. Less meaningful than winning a NC, sure. But not meaningless.

FSU NIU shouldn't even count

4-17 against BCS is in no way impressive.

I like Kilmer better when he's fat.

Whether you consider the Orange Bowl a significant bowl or not, the oranges in Iowa's trophy are stale.

Great? Few? Please list the truly great moments in IA FB since 2004?????

Pssst....it will be 4 seasons removed this fall. Get over it. There will be no players on the roster this fall who actually saw the field that night.

1. Georgia Tech was 1 dimensional
2. The man responsible for the win [Norm Parker] is gone
3. Warm weather team caught on a cold weather night
4. People love this game because it leads them to forget the 3 game coaching debacle that was the end of 2009: Northerwestern, OSU, MN

Quick, Barta, another raise for the greatest win in Iowa history, sandwiched between 8 years of bush league coaching--sans NFL prep--and recruiting.

Trick question: What have the other five of the highest six paid coaches in CFB done since the 2010 Orange Bowl? Any of them stay home this bowl season and party with their 5th year senior QB?
