can kinnick grow again?

Talking with a buddy of mine, we were discussing how, if anyway, kinnick could expand if iowa were to go on another run much like from '02-'04 which lead to the decision of renovation then.I know Season tickets have to sell out so many years, but where could they add more seats, with there not being much room around kinnick due to the hospital.

I suggested an upper deck in the south endzone, because theres more space there.

I would think that the seats that are there need to get sold before any talk of expansion can be had.

Have you seen the bazillion threads about slowing ticket sales, not just at Iowa, but around the country?

The LAST thing Iowa needs to do is expand.

Depending on how many seats and what types of seats, if they were to expand I would close in the wedge shaped areas of the 2 south corners of the stadium. Between each grandstand and the south end zone seats is a wedge shaped area that with support columns would be a pretty easy engineering/architectural add on.

Maybe it would add 5-10 thousand seats but I would think even 5,000 more would be a nice upgrade if warranted.

Also there had been talk of luxury boxes on the east grandstands. I would think there is enough room with the wide sidewalk area below to add supports if the grandstand itself is strong enough.

Two levels of box seats there would be nice but not sure about electrical and water to that area.

I would love to see them close down the road to the north and put a second story of seating there. Then you can stick the old farts in the enclosed area to protect them from the weather and the rest of us can stand up and cheer without having to offend the foggy who wont stand up and cheer.

I would say if they expand it again they should widen the seats. They are too narrow for my shoulders. Being crammed in like sardines sucks. Can't ever take my wife to another game because she has claustrophobia. 6' tall size 7 and it's too crowded for her.

i think they just did widen the seats a few years back with the new construction.....

if you have season tickets spending for a 'seat back' really is worth the money as it better defines your seat space - no crowding together.

IIRC, they widened the seats by two inches.

Agreed about seat backs. They are totally worth it to claim your butt space. Cushion is bonus.

I think we should cut seats and do a party deck like Purdue is doing so on the rare occasion I decide to sit amongst the proles and not with my buddy up in the club seats I can crush brews in the stadium. Much as I predicted a few years ago, once the Administration took away my "in the zone" brew, the Hawks took a major nosedive.

I typically stand and the seat backs are a burden when trying to lean my drunken carcass against the back wall. I do agree about preserving your space, though.

Why would we want to grow Kinnick again? Haven't you heard the widespread panic that there are still tickets left in July?

We really just need Clown U to discontinue their football program like they should and then we can talk expansion.
