Can Iowa Beat Purdue?

i want to know how nebby is lightyears ahead because i saw a game of theirs and i wouldnt say iowa is guaranteed a win but nebby isnt better. for my money they are basically even right now. yet iowa has a player who is playing at a level i didnt expect him to reach until at least next year. and it is making everyone else much more deadly. especially gatens because you have to focus on marble which gets gatens open as the #2 scorer like he always should have been.

They aren't. Only a clueless Clone troll would say they are "lightyears ahead". Nebraska was much better last season. They don't have a single quality win, they've lost to a very average Oregon team and a bad Wake Forest team. They've also struggled with Central Michigan and Florida Gulf Coast. I would expect each of us to win at home if we played right now.

Purdue is not Purdue, the lost a ton with Moore/Johnson graduating and not a lot replacing them. Defensively, they are better than average, but offensively they just aren't that great. It would not surprise me if Iowa wins with the way Marble has been playing, I like the matchup against Lewis Jackson as Jackson has struggled with size and length in his career. I would like to see a White-Hummel matchup as well.
Purdue is a descending program and they may be somewhat down for a couple years as they have relied on Moore/Johnson/Hummel for years.

As for the poster that said Iowa has a 0.000001% chance, or whatever, that poster also said Indiana would get destroyed by Kentucky...great prognosticator there.

I still won't believe Hummel is done at Purdue until the season starts next year. He is their Settles.

I think he has been granted another year; after figuring out how many games he has missed in his career. Then comparing it to how many total games Purdue has had and he comes in at the 60% mark, or maybe a little lower. He gets another year of eligibility.

Not really, but that sounds like something the NCAA would do:D:D:D

I'm seriously considering driving down for the game. Late start means I can work most of the day and still make it down.

Please let us know what you decide to do.

As for the topic, I don't think the Hawks pull it off. Purdue will bring the athleticism that Iowa hasn't seen for a few games. I'll be a Marble believer if he can keep this up against quality BCS competition. I really hope I'm wrong about him.

I know one day you will show some appreciation for Marble, I think you like Marble about as much as I like Nix. There is a difference though, Marble has actually improved.
What I am hanging my hat on right now on the "BCS level" competition factor is that he played an exceptional game last year against Purdue after Cartwright went out. Marble played extended minutes and with him at the helm cut into the lead and put Iowa back into a position to win the game.
Tomorrow will show something, I like the match-up with Jackson a lot actually, Jackson can't shoot outside and struggles with big defenders that sag. If Jackson hits a couple outside shots, it may be interesting. Marble will need to protect the ball on offense and not be careless and get Jackson frustrated and then have his way with Jackson.
Still, I want to see White/Hummel match-up against each other.

I think the hawks keep it close and as long as Iowa can not turn it over and play smart on the defensive end, I think they can pull it out. I Know Purdue is not the same team as they were last year, and some of their bigs are not as mobile as johnson or as good.

I like the hawks, I feel Gatens/Olgesby go off tonight.

Iowa 78
PU 69

I'm not sure why people are so hyped up about Purdue. They have a few pieces that can play, like Iowa, but like Iowa they have no big man, that is any good anyway. I have watched quite a bit of Purdue bball the last few years (in laws are alums) and I'm telling you this team is not that much better than Iowa, and not close to last year's Purdue team.

a couple reasons.

Purdue is the next game
If we only can get 1 of our 1st 7 games in B1G play, Purdue at home is our best shot.

Purdue
@ Wisc
@ Minn
OSU
@MSU
UM
@Purdue

A win over Purdue tonight is possible. As others have said, I think we have a reasonable shot to win any given home game, except maybe OSU. I don't think it's LIKELY that we win tonight, but it's possible. More than a .00000001% chance as stated above. Maybe more like 25%.

On the road will be a different story. I'd be happy to get ANY road wins in-conference this year.
