both are banned now, and i feel like i'm somehow paying homage to them.
and while we're on it, wow how good could we be with Gatens on the team right now lighting it up like he did last year? i'm of the opinion that if Fran was his coach all 4 years, last year wouldn't have been such an anomaly. who knows though. still, i'll blame Lick for trying to make him a post player.

Personally, I like it. It keeps the memory of Herby Derby alive. You are honoring him and his contributions to this board.

I agree with this, just look at the difference in two years and his jr year he wasn't bad, had the injury early and was a little inconsistent. Matt was a heck of a player and would be a huge difference for this team and it wasn't just about his shooting either.
Of course, then it makes me wonder if Clemmons would be the same player today not starting and playing behind Gesell...oh well, future looks really good.
If this year is the only year he is missed then I will take that and the multiple NCAA tournament bids that are going to happen under Fran and this freshman class.

Herby's claims were so comical...like gabe averaging a dbl-dbl. Or that white is a 3. Or that we won't miss gatens.
My favorite is one where he claimed jok could play the 4 spot. Maybe in hs but not in college at the d1 level. The reason I think of it was the talk of lick trying to make gatens into a post.

I think not having Gatens on this team and giving players like Gesell and Clemmons more playing time will pay off down the road. But I can't help but wonder if Gatens would have been the difference in the losses to Indiana and MSU.

I agree, in the long run this pays off in a HUGE way actually. I don't know how much different those two games would have been with Gatens, not a knock on him, but Iowa had other problems than White playing out of position earlier this year, Gatens may not have solved those issues.
