Can a decent bowl performance get us back in top 25?

It sucks falling out of top 25. Who would of ever thought it possible with some of our early season rankings. I'd like to see Captain's boys finishing the year back in the AP top 25.

I don't think so, not with 5 losses. I think this year puts us back in the category of "do we really believe this team is that good." The same category this team was in for most of last year. This was an important year for our "national perception." I think it took a hit and we are back to "good program" status. If we would have finished 11-2 or better, maybe even 10-3, I think our reputation continues to grow into next year. But the way this football team performed over the last six weeks will make voters and experts think twice about putting us in elite category again. It's a shame. KF had this thing rolling in a very exciting direction. Don't get me wrong, the program isn't dead or average now, but this team was making strides up the college football popularity contest ladder.

here are teams with five losses that have been ranked

2009 clemson
2005 fsu
2003 Florida
then 3 in 02

Highly doubtful in my opinion, but it depends on who Iowa plays in the bowl game. I think Iowa will be predicted to finish mid pack next year in the Big Ten and not be ranked in the Top 25 to start the season.

Does Ferentz get a bonus for being in the final top 25?

From the contract that is still in place until 2012...

"USA Today/ESPN Final Poll

Top 25 - $100,000
Top 20 - $125,000
Top 15 - $150,000
Top 10 - $225,000
Top 5 - $275,000
National champions - $500,000"

Actually, it could be different from this even because I think sometime a couple years ago didn't he sign a different extension that kept him here through 2015 or so? I'm not sure if any of the numbers above might have been changed by that contract.

Long shot at best. probably would have to beat Arkansas(7) or LSU(10) in the Outback Bowl by a large margin. That would mean South Caronlina would have to beat Auburn for the SEC bid then Auburn would be an At-Large. Even then I don't think we'd get a large enough bump.
