Cam Newton will win the Heisman

Has anyone else seen him play? It's absolutely mind blowing. He's got NFL TE size, he's got great feet, great vision, and is shockingly fast. His play against Arkansas this weekend was incredible. He's literally like Tim Tebow on steroids. That TD record that Tebow set will be lucky to last the next year or two.

I had heard people from Auburn say a few years ago that he was the most important recruit/player ever to attend and I kind of chuckled (does anyone else remember Bo Jackson?). Well, I'm not laughing anymore. Here is his current season stat line.

The Heisman is nothing more than a popularity contest week in and week out. With that said, Cam Newton is putting up unreal numbers, but 2 weeks ago they were giving the award to D. Robinson, last week was Martinez, Cam Newton this week. Once Auburn loses or he lays an egg, it will be someone else. You get my drift, who will be the next flavor of the week?

Who are these psychic Auburn fans you speak of?

The thing is all those other guys laid an egg or thier production dropped dramatically once the conf season started. This guy has stayed the same, or maybe even gotten better. Plus he plays in the SEC which helps his cause.

All that aside from everything I've seen he's head and shoulders above any other player (figuratively and literally) in college football right now, which is what the Heisman SHOULD be about.

It's just comical watching a QB at 6'6 250 bowl over guys on the goal line, and juke LB's, CB's, and Safties in the open field.

BTW it will be very interesting to see how his history impacts the Heisman vote this year. For those that don't know he was dismissed from stealing a laptop from another student while at Florida. He went to a JUCO for a year and signed with Auburn. Normally I would say that is something that would be completely glossed over, but with the recent stain Bush put on the Heisman that's not a sure thing.

Duff,
Don't get me wrong, he's a helluva football player, but like you said, the SEC isn't hurting his chances either. The defense, or lack there of, is pathetic in that conference. If he does this again LSU & Bama, lock it up.

Are you saying he's inelligible to play? Because that's the only "stain" Bush put on the Heisman, there's been plenty of guys with questionable character that have won the award.

Cam Newton's been playing well, but remember when everybody was saying "Just give the Trophy to Dernard!"?

He's certainly played well in conference, but I'll wait till week 12/13 to crown him the new prince of CFB.

No I'm not saying he's inelligible. What I'm saying is Heisman voters might feel some pressure to vote for someone with "good character" more this year than in previous year. Don't think for a second that the Bush Heisman controversy won't have an impact in the voting this year.

yeah newton is unreal. i forget oregon's running backs name but he's salty too.

its cam newton's to lose at this point though

Is this his first year as a starter? Isn't he a junior?

And what is Teblow's record?

he transferred from Florida - newton - got into some trouble over a laptop and then was named third string behind fl's current starter (i believe) and that combination caused him to go juco.

his first year at Florida was 2007, and he used a redshirt while there.

I don't know anyone who was ready to give the award to D-Rob. I remember a lot of people saying he was by far and away the leader, and the only player making a serious run or in the conversation, which was certainly true a month ago.

That being said there is a big difference between numbers after week 4 and those after week 7. The fact Newton is continuing his excellent play, and perhaps getting better in the conference season to me is a huge difference. It's why I'm saying now that if he stays healthy he will win the award.

For those that haven't seen him play check out this highlight video. It's a bit long and it has interviews and stuff in it, but you can watch 3 plays that tell you all you need to know.

1) The first pass play where he rolls out and fires a rope on a deep out.

2) The scramble at the 1:21 mark. This is simply indescribable, in fact the announcer says as much. It's like that Seneca Wallace play from a few years ago times a thousand.

3) The 71 TD run at the 3:22 mark.

I have never ever seen an athlete at 6'6 250 do those kind of things, ever.
