Cade into the Portal

Not shocking but why continue a career full of injuries and no chance to play professionally? Go enjoy the rest of your life as healthy as you can.

The glory. Its hard to give up the dream.

I guess this must be the last of the covid exemption class?

I'm sure mentally it would be hard to quit knowing how bad your last two seasons were and how badly you embarassed yourself.

Spencer Petras had himself a redemption season of sorts this year. Cade probably wants the same.

He'd need a waiver from the NCAA to play again

I wish Cade all the luck in the work. This kid exhibits such great leadership skills and I wish he would stick around to be part of the coaching staff. I have no doubt this kid will be a success in life!

I was thinking the same thing. How does Drew Ott feel about all of these players getting 6 or 7 years?

If Ott wanted to, they should let Ott come back to Iowa to play a 5th year.

That would be a great story. However, he had a bunch of followup injuries in training for NFL. But if he is past all that, I would be all in on cheering on 30 year old Drew Ott.

If you have an opportunity to keep playing why not keep playing. Probably not the best examples, both didn’t end up great.

Wonder if Cade will even get that 7th yr I don't see that being a given. If I'm Drew Ott I'd be furious at how easily 6 yrs had been given out to people let alone 7. Ott couldn't even get a 5th. NCAA is trash

He will get a 7th year. It is pretty much a given these days.

Ya think? The whole covid extra yr thing is done now. How many games he miss this yr due to injury? You could be right but I sure hope you're not.

Is there anyone that the NCAA didn’t give a waiver to in the past the two years? IMO, the NCAA is rubber stamping any shit at this point, so yeah, I expect CM to get a 7th year.

Yeah some dude got an 8th yr so you're prolly right. Career college football players is what we have now

I honestly don't think he was truly ever "right" after the ACL surgery much less the second injury. He wore that big bulky brace and it hindered him. If you really watched his throwing mechanics, he never truly could plant that front throwing leg, and it showed.

Great leadership and locker room presence kept him in the starting lineup. But I would be shocked if he goes anywhere major. I can see him finding somewhere closer to his home state in Nevada or etc.

Regardless, the kid handled everything well and in stride, and one can appreciate that.

Was named Honorable Mention All Mountain West, to go along with his 2020 Honorable Mention All B1G.

Completed 65% of his passes for 2315 yards (7.1 yds/att), 17 TDs to 11 Int.

He averaged 306 yds/game for the 7 full-games he played. He got knocked out of the 1st game and missed the next 2 with injury. He got knocked out of the penultimate game in the 1st quarter and then missed the finale.

I think he showed enough to demonstrate that the Iowa offensive debacle was not all on him. I am pretty sure a healthy Petras would have been our best QB option over the past 2 years.

I may be in the minority, but I honestly don't feel that we ever got a sustained chance to see what Cade can do.

Between leg injuries with recovery and conditioning, adapting to a new offense, frequent poor protection and then the concussion, our sample size of a healthy QB comfortable in the offense with good protection was to say the least quite limited.

I'm hoping he ends his career healthy and on a high note.

Yup, for sure.
