As I said, its up to the kid and his family if he graduates. If Iowa had a 10% graduation rate I wouldn't care. The graduation argument is a red herring.

That's actually retarded. It takes two assistants to make sure each Iowa basketball player stays academically eligible at a school that is academically middle of the pack in the Big Ten? That's FUCKING embarrassing. With the Iowa b-ball program, their are two assistants assigned to each player to track their school performance. Over and above other athletic academic advisors.
But, ya, it’s not a priority with Fran. I’m actually thankful for this, and I know a couple past players of his are too - now that basketball doesn’t pay their bills anymore.
Fucking bullshit. Again, I'm MORE pissed now. Outright lies.
- "I don’t think I’ve ever announced extending a coach’s contract in the middle of the season. The reason I don’t like to do that: It distracts from playing the games, playing the season." - FALSE, as called out in the article
- “Many times, when we announce coaches’ contracts, it’s for recruiting. In this case, we didn’t need an advantage in recruiting. Recruiting’s been going fine." - Bwahahahahhahahahaha [breath] bwahahahahahahahaahaah. Seriously, F this guy with a rusty cactus.
- Barta operates under the "Win, Graduate, Do It Right" mantra. He and McCaffery align in that area. - I'll be honest, I don't want to be a sanctioned school but I have no need for the program to be a boy scout program. And I don't care if a single player graduates. No one cared if I graduated except myself and my parents. Honest question, how many of you here cared if I graduated. Answer, zero.
- "But I just did not want to have this conversation in the middle of the season. But it is what it is. And there was no conspiracy." - Oh trust me asshat, I put this all on you solely. No worries there.
- Kirk has had other opportunities, historically. - Translation, no one has wanted Kirk in a while. Did he slip and make an honest comment?
- “(McCaffery’s) were very legitimate, specific opportunities … that, frankly, may have paid him more. But he likes it here. His family likes it here — they’re very entrenched in the community.” - So it sounds like he had no reason to leave.
- “If you’re a Hawkeye basketball fan right now, you’re not happy. That’s fair. And who can you point to when you’re not happy? You point to the head coach." - Fortunately for Fran you've managed to turn the focus on your FUCKING EPIC incompetence.
So we have 1) a shitty contract, 2) an attempt to hide it, and 3) BALD FACE FUCKING LIES about trying to hide it.
Barta is a liar of the worst kind. He doesn't even care about how obvious the lies are. Anyone that would spend .50 cents on Iowa athletics while this clown is running it, gets what they deserve!Fucking bullshit. Again, I'm MORE pissed now. Outright lies.

Its embarrassing if it took two grown adults to make sure they graduated. No one followed me around making sure I graduated from college.Frans graduated like 99% of the guys he’s coached over his career.
That’s Commendable, not embarrassing.
As I said, its up to the kid and his family if he graduates. If Iowa had a 10% graduation rate I wouldn't care.
So Hubbard’s recruitment was done double secret with no one aware of his past. Give me a break.
Didn’t last long in IC did he?
The world is full of nice guys...doesn’t mean they all need $2M salaries with $10M buyouts...What Barta is basically saying, is that performance on the court or field is secondary to character when it comes to evaluating his coaches.
That's commendable to a degree, but, newsflash for Barta - you can have both. You don't settle for mediocrity just because you have a fear that a coach is going to come in and throw academics out the window. That's what vetting is for.
He's setting a low bar to say the least, with Kirk getting a bonus for reaching 7 wins, and now with Fran's extension and exorbitant buyout. If next season even comes close to resembling this season, the torches and pitchforks will be coming out, and I'm not sure the crowd's first stop will be at Fran's house...
Fucking bullshit. Again, I'm MORE pissed now. Outright lies.

He's a liar. Why would he force the media to file a FOI request to get the new contract, if he wasn't trying to hide it? If you're willing to take him at his word on this, what is your explanation? So after reading this article this is how I feel.
It is completely feasible that Barta just made a bone head call of delaying the contract announcement. He has proven to be out of touch and insulated from the real world. So this would not suprise me.
Barta does not strike me as a person that is embarrassed about signing this contract. I don't see any motive to hide something that you are not embarrassed about. I am inclined to take him at his word on this regardless of my feelings about it in general.
It is clear that Barta's main priorities are Graduate, do it right, and then if it is possible, to win some. Personally I believe that it is possible to achieve all 3 without some guarantee of scandal. It appears that Barta lives in fear that it is not possible to achieve all 3 consistently. My biggest complaint with Barta to date is that he demands the clean program but does not also demand success. At least the kind of success that we as fans crave. I do believe that under his leadership the programs have run very clean. I believe this is a result of the emphasis he places on it. It is my opinion that if he placed the same emphasis on winning as well that it could all be achieved. It does become clear over time that our coaches become comfortable (possibly lax) because their main measuring stick is a completely manageable metric of graduating and not having scandals. I don't feel as though the pressure is applied to also excel in your sport. Why hunt when dinner is served every night all the same? This appears to be a culture that Barta has created and I like most of you believe it is weak sauce for a major University like Iowa.
Now on the other hand. It is hard for me to shoot lasers from my eyes. It is irrefutable that Fran and Kirk are both respectable people who run programs as clean as any I could imagine. I don't actually know what Barta is evaluated on by the President. I suppose that it is possible that all Barta is evaluated on is making money and keeping the University free of black eyes. I am of course referring to black eyes like the scandals that have and are rocking Universities around the country. So considering the real possibility that Barta is just pandering to his marching orders, I find it hard to hate him for doing what is expected of him. It is also hard to argue with the value of having clean and respectable programs. I definitely don't ever want to lose those things. I also don't see why we should have to worry about that losing those though. If the culture is set to do things above the fray then the machine should continue to run at the status quo. I can't find a reason that demanding tangible results and winning consistently would jeopardize that.
All in all I believe Gary Barta is a decent man that clearly has some large lapses in judgment. I believe that he accomplishes his main goals each year of making money and keeping the programs out of hot water. Of course the Meyer case is a giant blunder on his part, but not actually reflective of any of our athletic programs. I also believe that if Barta simply put equal impetus towards winning that he does for doing it right that we could elevate both of our bell cow programs. I just find it hard to truly chastise the man without knowing more about what orders he operates under. Except for Meyer. I blame him fully for that and was shocked that he kept his job afterwords.
