Butler's injury

After watching him run in our season opener I predicted he'd be injured before season's end. He runs too upright and just goes full bore ahead throwing his body into danger.

I don't think you're wrong about his running style, but his injury came when he put his arm out to catch himself after a tackle. It didn't really have anything to do with the way he runs the ball; it could have happened to anyone out there including Wadley, VB, Easley...

I agree it was just fluky/random. Any ball carrier that goes down could have that happen. Putting your off hand down is just a reactionary thing one does to try and brace yourself. He just went down at an odd angle with a lot of pressure... Glad he'll be back and it's not a season ender

Butler's injury had nothing to do with running style and everything to do with freak bad luck.

Also, Butler has had over 600 carries at the FBS level and hasn't once been injured so, while I would agree that his running style may be somewhat more upright than you'd like to see, he's been elusive enough to not take the big shot....

Stuck his arm out and although I'm not a doctor, I'd say he hyper extended it and almost dislocated it. It was cringy.

I've dislocated my knee cap before and, judging by the angle of his lower arm, I'd say he dislocated his elbow. Based on KF saying he should be back after the bye, that means it was a "clean" dislocation and didn't tear up any ligaments...would have just sprained them....

My buddy and I saw a classmate dislocate his knee cap in gym class before. It was literally on the side of his knee instead of the normal top. One of the damdest things I've ever seen in my life. "My buddy yells across the gym to the PE teacher "Coach, Crandall blew a knee!!!!!".

Wasn't you, was it?

Yeah, right after it happened (before I realized what had actually happened), I thought to myself.....man, that kinda hurt. Then I looked down at my leg and saw my knee cap on the side of my leg and it all of a sudden hurt a helluva lot more...:)

I have seem a dislocated elbow before in real life, and when I saw him on the ground, that was the first thing I thought of.

I thought this was a Randy Lewis type of injury when I first saw it. For those of us who remember that injury...well, it was a freaky, freaky thing to watch. He came back the same season and got 3rd at Nationals or something like that...with one arm. Last time I looked, you really need two arms to wrestle. He would have never given up that takedown if his arm had not bent completely the opposite way it is supposed to at the elbow.

It had EVERYTHING to do with how he reacts to a tackle. Watch the 4 runs before the injury. I thought every one of them was the play he was injured on. You cant hurl your body with the momentum that he does and then put your arm out to brace. Cover the football, arms to your chest. Go back and watch, he has such a forward lean, he about goes face first half the time. I think his running style did contribute to the injury.

600 carries and never got hurt. Comes to Iowa and gets hurt in the 3rd. game! Figures.

I've dislocated an elbow before and it's painful (shocking I know) but only initially. Once it's back in place the biggest issue is stiffness and not being able to bend your elbow very well for a few weeks.

Me too. I was able to play again 2 weeks later because they braced the heck out of it.
