Butler/Pitt

They were not only fouls, they were brainless fouls.
I hope that kid realizes what he did to my brackets!

He didn't hurt me at all.

1. My bracket is screwed anyway :D
2. I picked ODU/Butler to beat Pitt in 3/4 of my brackets. Pitt is a CHRONIC underachiever in the Big Dance. Honestly, Pitt and Georgetown might be the poster children for the Big East's struggles lately (Georgetown gets blown out in the first round for the second straight year).

The refs deserve props, but both were easy calls. The players have to know to stay away from the foul, so any contact is a foul.

The Butler foul was bad, the Pitt foul was worse.

I think as much blame needs to be put on Dixon. Why even have your guys in to rebound for the second shot? Butler isn't going to get anything remotely resembling a good shot. The worst that can happen is you miss the 2nd free throw and go to OT. By keeping guys in, you risk having exactly what happened, happen.

So the going theory right now is that the Buffalo Wild Wings people had something to do with the end of that game. The authorities are looking into it.

Apparently not enough. My bad, I see was wrong. Just hate to see a game end like that

I think you saw the bad angle where the Pitt guy raised both arms AFTER the foul. I agree though, hate to see kids from both teams make those kind of mistakes. One good mistake deserves another?

Good point, but there was plenty of time for a tip in.

What are you people smokin' tonite? The refs were right on the money here. It was the players that made bad plays.

If they called that much contact as a foul the entire night, there would have been 100 free throws shot. The Pitt guy's momentum was taking him out-of-bounds anyway. Game should have ended.

I'm usually critical of the refs, but in this case they got it right, and kudos to them for having the courage to call it. I'm glad they didn't swallow the whistle for the last seconds of the game.

Just a crazy ending and still can't believe the pitt guy committed that foul. I'm with tm3308, just pull your guys off the line. You've already got OT, no need to risk it there.

That's true. They just didn't have to have it. If that game goes to OT, I think Pitt pulls it out.

Regardless, I'm thrilled! The Big East is midway through their tournament flop, and I'm loving every minute of it :D

If the Pitt guy was falling out of bounds, that just makes it more of a foul on the Zaga guy. What was he doing running into a Pitt guy at half court who was falling out of bounds with less that 2 seconds on the clock?

Both were fouls. Im over Butler, they flopped about 3-4 times in a 3 minute span midway through the 2nd half. Howard should have been a soccer player.

Butler is what is good about college athletics. I'm guessing you lost some $$$.

True, but that's part of the game, too. Nobody ever complains about a phantom call if their team is on the side that benefits from it.

funny some of us were discussing this very thing yesterday. they were both fouls but I can't believe they were called.

No wonder Jimmer scored so many points, the Zags only had four guys on the court.

The first call against Butler was god-awful. 50' away from the hoop, and no chance that the Pitt player would make the shot. He was falling out-of-bounds on his own, and the Butler player did make contact but there was contact like that not called throughout the game. The second call had to be made given the first god-awful call. Anyone else recognize the big-ten ref (slicked-back hair...Jimmy Hoffa look-alike). He pointed to the sideline as if the player stepped out-of-bounds, though. Figures big-ten's pathetic refs factored into this game.

Officials are not assigned to a specific conference, they can officiate in multiple conferences.

As for the first foul, it doesn't matter where the guy is on the court, a foul is a foul. The second call was a foul, if you paid any attention to the replay, it was obvious.

Amazing to look at the box score, both teams had 18, and Pitt actually shot four more free throws. Leads me to believe the game was called pretty evenly.

Both were fouls and both were stupid plays on the players behalf. I get what the Butler guy was trying to do but WHY in the hell does the coach have the Pitt players in the lane for a rebound? Nothing good is going to come from that. If he misses there is barely enough time to grab the board and chuck it down towards the hoop.

Stupid call by the Pitt coaches in that situation. He must have gotten a page from Buffalo Wild Wings.

There was plenty of time left for a tip in. You can go for the rebound and not foul in that situation.
