Building a Program (or not) In the B1G since 1999

The thing that jumps out about next year is how much better the bottom of the conference will be. Nebraska doesnt lose much, PSU gets Frazier back and they were very competitive at the end of the year against some good teams.

Purdue is a young team and Hammons will be a monster. NU will get Crawford back but who knows how they will be with a new coach.

While the top will not be as strong next year in the BoneG, it will feature a lot more parity.

Nebraska loses Talley and Ubel, which represents a pretty sizable chunk of their firepower this year. They're a wait and see for me, although I definitely think Miles is the right guy to get them on track.

Purdue and Penn State I totally agree on. I see them jumping Minnesota and Illinois. PSU's backcourt will be downright scary with Frazier, Newbill, and Marshall. And I definitely like what I saw from Hammons and the Johnsons this year. That will be a very solid group.

With all due respect, I don't ******* care, and for the life of me I can't undertand why anyone would.

Purdue will make upward strides if Painter can get Hammons under control. I watched several games this year that he just did not play very hard and I see he didn't play much in their last game. I've heard rumors that he is thinking of putting his name in the draft. That will definitely affect Purdue in a negative fashion.

This went from a throw back Iowa basketball post from 2004 to some weird discussion about Penn State and Nebraska basketball. This thread sucks.

Crawford has been granted the medical redshirt year, however, when Carmody was fired, the immediate word from his camp is that he was considering his options, which could include going pro, or playing his last year at another school, without sitting because he has graduated. I wish he would come to Iowa next year.

Paging Freddy, come on down!

I've read blistering commentary on CyFan that the BoneG is overrated and that Fred is 20x the coach Fran is. I'm not sure who to believe.

And our fan base is made up of Tavern-Hoks, Kinnick is a dump, ISU is the real state school because it has a higher percentage of students from Iowa...etc, etc...blah...blah...blah. the constant delusion that comes out of "make-up-the-Story County"

I will agree the bottom of the league will be better. If Crawford is back for Northwestern they will be improved. They have a new coach and who knows what they will get/lose between now and the start of next season. One of their incoming freshman has already indicated he will be looking elsewhere. Nebraska does lose their best inside and outside player (Ubel and Talley). I'm sure they have some good players coming in, but unless these players are Gary Harris-level talent it will take them a year or two before they are a factor. Huskers could be better and have a similar record. Iowa was a better team this year than last but won just 1 more conference game than the year before.

Rest of the league will have lots of potential question marks, but again likely good. Illinois loses Paul, Richardson, McLaurin and Griffey. Paul and Richardson took a lot of shots. If Indiana loses Oladipo/Zeller along with Hulls and Watford, that's a lot to replace. They still have Ferell/Sheehey, along with a very good recruiting class. Michigan just depends on who goes/stays. If Burke/Hardaway/Robinson all leave, they still have talent returning and coming in, but that is a lot to lose. Michigan State will be loaded/scary good if Harris and Payne decide to stay. Ohio State could lose Thomas but Matta has a history of just bringing in more good players. Bucks' only senior is Ravenell so they will be potentially loaded. Wisconsin loses Evans, Bergren, Brusewitz, but gets back all their guards plus John Gasser. Dekker will play a more prominent role and I would anticipate Badgers to again be in Top 4 of the league. Minnesota, who knows. Williams, Julia Welch, Mbakwe all gone, but have the Hollins brothers as a nice nucleus if they decide to stick around for the new coach.
