BTN broadcast stinks

No, it's a very bad network, that offers nothing anyone wants to watch except live games, and even then it is terribly amateurish.

No one expects them to be perfect, but they are miles behind the competition. I'm not perfect at my job, but I also don't have another guy who does the exact same job but much more professionally than I do.

SHUT UP, GHOST

Not true. Well, at least not totally.

BTN is miles behind the top tier competition, i.e. ESPN/ABC's A-team. They're also behind their B and C-teams. CBS is also on the level of ESPN's B and C-teams, IMO.

But if you get down the lineup a little bit, say the Pam Ward level teams, BTN is just as good, if not better. And not just in play-by-play and commentary. Total production. Their low level teams are awful too.

And BTN is also as good as better anything on FSN.

I don't really watch Notre Dame, so I can't really comment about NBC.

The worst broadcast I've seen was ESPN's broadcast of ISU vs. Uconn, which is ESPN's Friday night team. It was like watching WOI Channel 5 produce a college football game (Central Iowa natives know what I mean.)

Who would you take, FOX's crew from the Orange Bowl a few years ago (including the "futuristic" robot football player) or BTN's number 1 team?

Umm, you haven't forgotten who owns the other 49% of BTN and thus is probably responsible for much of the technical aspects of a broadcast, have you?

I know, but they're still two different companies. At least with BTN, they know something about college football.

I thought the booth guys did OK, certainly better than Pam Ward and some of the other folks who've gotten the Iowa assignment the past few years. This was more from a production end -- what cameras to air, when to realize Iowa is going into its no-huddle to get the first down but cut away to something and have to explain what happened when they come back. Also, I think they missed when the Indiana PAT was called back for the offside.

The guys in the booth largely get their information from a spotter, and that's also where some of the problem is.

Hey, between BTN and the broadcast of virtually all Iowa games that are not on national or regional nets, and no Iowa TV broadcast at all, I'll happily take BTN. But the amateurism at times is frustrating. Guess we've come to expect better as a result of ESPN/ABC and CBS Sports.

That is all. Carry on.

Yep. It's hard going from that to this Wisky/Sparty broadcast. Really shows the difference.

BTW: This is pretty darn good football too.

Congrats, you're the first person I've heard of who thinks Speilman is bad as a color guy.

As for the BTN, I like today's broadcast team and the studio guys however the game production is poor IMO. They miss live plays coming out of comercial at least once a game

This is my biggest pet peeve as well, although I am nearly 100% positive that this is a local issue and not a BTN problem per se.

Just out of curiosity, do you live in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids market?

If we didn't have this network you wouldn't be watching the game today.

This couldn't be more FALSE. It's not true. It's just not reality. It's a lie.

I moved from from Iowa in 2002. Before the BTN I NEVER missed an Iowa football game. Not one since I was a little kid. So all of a sudden this game would not be broadcast? That's a great big lie. I bet your pants are on fire right now, Aren't they?

In fact when basketball season comes around that's when the BTN really screws me. Before they came along I saw every single Iowa basketball game, now many of the games are not televised.

"They miss live plays coming out of comercial at least once a game,"

That's because the world needs to know more about Hass avocados so they can throw the perfect party.

hahaha
yeah, but would YOU allow that creepy John Lynch in to your gameday shindig?? I sure wouldn't.

Yeah, I forgot about that...on the play when Indiana got a flag thrown for delay of game and they picked up the flag because the Indiana coach was running down the field calling for a timeout and they felt sorry for him. They never showed the time clock.

What kind of worthless broadcast doesn't show the play clock when it's winding down to zero? The Big Ten Network, that's who.

To me it seems like it should have been a penalty since a timeout wasn't acknowledged before the flag was thrown, but since I was watching the game on the BTN I didn't really see enough to know for sure.

I haven't lived in Iowa since 2000, and the game wouldn't have been on today if not for the big ten network. We aren't ranked, and Indiana isn't very good....seriously, who was going to cover this one. I live in a town with a state college and alot of there early season games are pay per view only...40 bucks, so it could be worse.

If they get Jessie Palmer and Pam Ward to call the games would you be happy then? I am pretty sure that would cause a black hole to form and life as we know it would end..

Hey, give credit where credit is due, no one covers field hockey better than BTN. Or at least that is the legend, since no one has ever watched it, although it is 20% of their broadcast schedule.
