Brust for Uthoff

I'd say the Hawks came out ahead on that one. Occurred to me reading in the DMR that the BT changed the rule on someone being allowed to transfer to another school within the conference and get a scholarship based on Brust leaving Iowa and going to Wisconsin. Maybe Uthoff doesn't come, otherwise. Thanks, Ben.

Edit - Too early - Uthoff for Brust.

I don't want to argue, because I don't know. Uthoff hasn't played 1 second of college bball so I really don't know what he can be. However, Brust was not a fit for Fran's system so I'm ok that he is not here, but he can shoot it, I will give him that.

I agree with Farmer that it is too early to tell.

I do think every team and every system needs a legitimately 3 point threat and for that reason I wish we still had Brust.

Believe me though, I hope Uthoff makes me eat my words!

I concur that its far too early to say which team made out better on this 'deal'. As for Brust not fitting in Fran's system, I disagree. One thing Iowa lacks is outside shooters. Always a place for two or three of those.

Brust is a spot up shooter, and granted, he does it well. Uthoff on the other hand can run the floor, dribble, pass, shot, rebound, and defend and fills a much greater need for us at the 3 spot.

I don't think he fits the system for Fran. yes he can shoot the three and those guys are needed, but he is not going to attack the rim or make the defense collapse. Fran's system requires guys to get to the rim. I'm not saying he wouldn't be good to have, but he isn't ideal for Fran's system like say a Gessell or Ingram will be.

Uthoff may have not played a game, but I know a couple of Wisky fans, and they would take Uthoff over Brust Anyday....for what its worth, it isn't just Iowa fans saying this.

I don't want a three point shooter attacking the rim. One of Oglesby's issues last year was head faking a three and driving...if you can drive, that's great, but he was lost after getting by his first man because he doesn't have the ability to get by the second player and glide and score in the air like that. Just shoot the three

Brust reminded me more of Gordy Bohannon than a Fran McCaffrey player. He liked Lick's style and bo's seemed to fit him perfectly. He would occasionally drive to the basket for a short jump shot. But it appeared to me that he stood on the wing and waited for the ball to be passed to him with three seconds left on the shot clock. Uthoff certainly seems much more versatile......

I think we won. Bo can have Btust, who is good but not wanting to play Fran style ball.....

:)

There's only so much space in the lane. I like a spread out offense with some guys on the wings who can bomb away.

After looking at it again, I like having Ogelsby and Uthoff over Brust. I'm not sure we get Ogelsby if Brust stays at Iowa.

Brust as a So. Per game averages:
21.3 min.
7.1 points
2.2 rebounds
.7 assists
.7 steals
.7 turnover
.389% 3pt

Ogelsby as a Fr. Per game averages:
18.4 min.
6.4 points
1.7 rebounds
1.2 assists
.2 steals
.4 turnovers
.372% 3pt

I don't know who you've been talking to but not anyone with an actual pulse of the team. Brust is a PHENOMENAL 3-point shooter (tied his own school record last year with 7 3's in a game) and he is expanding his offensive game. He's more than just a spot up shooter. The two players that made the most gains this off-season in our conditioning phase were Ben Brust and Ryan Evans. Brust will be a 10+ppg scorer this season on a team that will have multiple scoring threats.

No one knows what Uthoff is going to be as he hasn't played 1 second of Division I college basketball. Brust was the 6th man on a Sweet 16 team and he played starter minutes as a soph.

Brust will be OK, but Iowa picked up a Brust type player last year in Oglesby. As a Fr, Oglesby put up similar numbers to what Brust was doing as a So (I already posted those). Ogelsby will put up about 10 PPG this year, just like Brust.

Much easier to find a one trick pony 3 pt. shooter, than it is to find a 6'8 kid who can run the floor, dribble, defend, shoot the 3, and rebound.

Loose cannon? You mean like transferring and talking to the media instead of people on your own team?

Uthoff didn't have many friends of Wisconsin's roster. Before he transferred as well.

Everyone knows that Bo illegally recruited Brust BEFORE he was released from his scholarship from Iowa.

Yeah, Wisconsin has never had any of those kind of those guys in Bo Ryan's tenure. LMAO!!!

It doesn't matter. Bo will have a better record with you with our guys or he could take your team and have a better record than you with your guys.

Bo could coach a group of kids from Hillcrest Dormitory to win a BIG championship.
