Bruce Pearl to receive show-cause penalty

So much for all the Forbes backers. If Iowa had hired Forbes, it would have had to fire him or receive NCAA sanctions.

Ha, you beat me to it. Ditto to all the Forbes supporters that refused / couldn't put 2 + 2 here. The whole crooked staff should be banned from coaching. If the consequences are severe enough, this crap just might stop.

This is a dirty staff because they had kids at a cookout. If this isn't the lamest recruiting rule, it ranks right up there. I understand they lied about it, which is really the biggest problem. It isn't like they are saying they paid kids to come to school there, that is a much bigger issue. To me, that is dirty, this issue is just plain stupidity or ignorance or both. I agree they need to follow the rules but everyone is acting like they bought players, which doesn't appear to be the case. Just my two cents. I am glad we didn't hire Forbes, but if he wasn't sanctioned I would take him on the staff because he is a proven recruiter and I don't think he is the reason for the cookout.

Great example of how backward the NCAA is. Most punished offense is lying to them. Yet Callipari leaves two different teams under serious sanctions and is still coaching high-level college basketball. What a freaking joke.

I get what your saying, but the fact is, for whatever reason, they cheated and then continually lied about it. They knew what they did was wrong and then lied and tried to deny it happened, regardless of how minor the infraction. They deserved what they got, because rules are rules (whether stupid rules or not) and they broke them and need to be held accountable for lying about it.

Exactly what i was thinking, cmon....... Callipari hasnt lied to NCAA???

Calipari is smart enough to let others break rules for him and keep enough plausable deniality to keep his name clean.

The assistants are only going to get a partial one year show cause. All will have the opportunity to coach in Division I as early as next season.

The assistants were screwed the second the NCAA had their hands on the picture. First, they were given terrible advice from Tennessee's legal staff but even more importantly they were screwed no matter what they said.

If they confirm that the picture was in BP's house, Pearl fires them and they never work in Div I coaching again. Ask Abar Rouse how telling the truth and going behind his boss' back worked out for him. If they don't confirm the picture is in Pearl's house they end up in the mess they're in now which is actually better as they still have an opportunity to return to Div I in a year.

College basketball is a crazy business.

Was I the only thinking Pearl was getting a show on ESPN, causing Tennessee to receive additional violations?

...boy was I confused.

I was a supporter of interviewing Forbes at minimum, and would have been excited if Iowa hired him,due to his proven recruiting prowess. I was wrong, and thankfully,Barta did not go that route. Fran was an inspired choice.

Pearl did screw his assistants,no doubt. They were in a no-win situation, while he is still sitting on a pile of cash. Bruce is a helluva coach, but he let his own ambition run wild and he brought himself down. Sad,really. He crossed the line, and did not have to,then he lied about it. Simply cannot happen if you are the leader of young men. Tressel found out the same lesson, the hard way.

Worldwide Wes baby. Calipari never needed to lie the NCAA, he knew ways around it. Every school uses runners to direct guys to come there, Calipari just happens to have had the best one in the country.
