Bruce Pearl isn't coming

Why on earth would he leave Tennesee for Iowa?! He would have a less talented team. He'd have players that don't fit his system. He'd be coaching in a smaller/worse arena. He'd have fewer and less passionate fans. He'd have to live up to unreasonably high expectations here. He is the one that created any sort of expectations at Tennessee. He would have less exposure at Iowa.
Most importantly; his son is on the team! He will only use Iowa to get a raise if possible.

Doubt it!!

Dammit...and I had just put the finishing touches on MY "Why Would Bruce Pearl Come to Iowa" thread...oh well, I'll change the name to "Keno Davis"...brb!

You think Iowa fans are less passionate than Tennessee? WTF.

And if you think we are unreasonable with our expectations because we wanted the coach with the worst record in Iowa history fired, then I don't know what to tell you. If you are talking about TN having "realistic" fans, just remember that they fired a football coach who had won them a national title. Yeah, they aren't unreasonable at all, unlike us Iowans. LOL.

Might want to think and/or do your research before you post nonsense like this.

You obviously didn't hear the radio interview that I just heard...

He spoke very fondly about Iowa, and when asked about the possibility of taking the Iowa job he said "I'm focusing on San Deigo State right now"

I don't think its out of the question by any means.

That is an interesting quote from Pearl.

Yeah, not sure what that means, because coaches usually dodge questions, but at least he didn't say "I'm staying at Tennessee.."

Haven't we heard, "I don't worry about that, I'm just focusing on (fill in the blank) right now" about 3,000 times from Ferentz. If you are trying to read something into what he is saying, you aren't going to find anything.

Duh

The point was that he could of gone farther and said something like "I love my job here in Tennessee, I have a great life here"

He didn't dismiss it, that was my point. Obviously it doesn't really tell us that much, but it doesn't completely rule it out.

There was a point where Ferentz never dismissed anything either. Now he makes top 10 money. Pearl did the exact same thing last year when Memphis was sniffing around him, and then wound up getting a 500k raise.

He also said the following in April of 2009:

“I truly love my job, and I want it to be clear that I’m not interested in any other job, there’s no place in the country I’d rather be than the University of Tennessee.

My children are happy here in the Knoxville community. One is in high school, one is in middle school and two are currently attending the university.’’

Care to wager if he said that before or after he got his contract renegotiated?

Pearl wont get another raise, obviously thats what your getting at.

He can't make more then Summit and I believe there pretty close right now. Not sure how significant of a raise that would be.

Not impossible, but still a reach IMO.

How is it a reach? He has gotten a raise the past two seasons. Last year Memphis offered him 3.25 million, and he parlayed that offer into a raise because UT clearly wants to keep him. If Iowa offers him 3+ million, he will clearly try and do the same thing.

One thing that can't be disputed is that Pearl really, really likes it in Tennessee, and no one seems to appriciate that.

He can't make more than Summit? This year he is being paid $1.9-million. Summitt is being paid $1.3-million. Why do people keep saying he cannot make more than Summitt?

Its a reach to say the ONLY reason he didn't dismiss it was because he wants a pay raise.

You say that nobody can appreciate that he likes Tennessee, why do you have trouble appreciating that he may have a genuine interesting in Iowa?

We have a practice facility in the works now as well, and depending on the money situation, you never know.

Its probably not going to happen, but I wouldn't rule out that he actually has interest in the job and that it might have more to do with that than just salary.

It's going to take 2.5 to 3 million to get him. That also means the buyout is larger in the contract for the hypothetical (maybe unrealistic) possibility it does not work. If the base pay amount is true we will also need to bump Ferentz to 4 million plus immediately. There is no way we could justify paying a new bb coach anywhere close to our football coach given his tenure and results. That also does not factor in the buyout amount we will be paying Lick 3 times.

Although I love the ideal of Pearl it's not realistic.

Scott Drew, Keano Davis are two candidates that make the most sense and could be best in the long run.

Why do you think Keno Davis would be a good candidate?

What are you basing that on? Enlighten me please.

Even if Pearl was interested in the Iowa job, it would be hard to see him move now with children still in high school (and possibly younger). Not sure any man would be interested in moving so far away from younger kids.
