WTF? This hardly ever happens. Every projection I saw had him as a lottery pick. On top of that looks like Swanigan, Haas and Edwards all returning for Purdue. Bryant and Blackmon back for Indy. Northwestern and Minnesota look strong. Seriously! This is bullshirt. Iowa is as promising as ever and the B1G is going to be a flipping buzz saw. Just great.
 


Where have you heard that Swanigan is coming back? He's as good as gone IMO. He's just being smart and not hiring an agent.
 


Izzo can really sell how great a guy he is and his love crap. Hopefully, the guy doesn't get hurt next year and hurt his opportunities in life.

Purdue forums. I gave it credibility because he hasn't made an announcement or hired an agent. Could be wrong, but that is why I said looks like. I think he should go too if it means anything to ya.
 


I don't think it's as dumb if a decision as some might think. Look at the first round last year, at least half the 1st round guys outside of the top 10 (10-30), spent most if not all the year in the D league.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the NBA is a different animal right now. It is dang tough to make it in that league.

I think coming back for an additional year of school improving your game and continuing to play on the big stage might be a good decision for some. Some guys never make it out of the D-league.

As far as injuries I think you can take out a pretty healthy insurance policy.

I haven't heard on Swanigan but as far as Iowa goes I don't think it matters that much. I don't think we are ready to make a run at B1G title just yet. Come tourney and seeding time it might be nice if the B1G has a little respect on the big stage for us.

Edit: Maybe we can avoid playing them twice.

Playing in the D-league as a 1st round draft choice is much different than playing as a 2nd round choice. 1st rounders all get guaranteed money. So if you can be a 1st round selection, you take it. And if you can be a nearly bona-fide lottery pick like Bridges, it's not even a decision....you just leave....

Yes that is the status quo ever since LeBron. I don't wholeheartedly believe in the practice, but I can't blame kids for chasing fame and money.
 


It's not a bad decision in my opinion. This year's draft is loaded. Bridges would be a lottery pick but possibly not top 10. In a weaker draft next year Bridges could go top 3. Same with Swanigan. He's not even a lock to go in the first round this year, but next year he could get close to the lottery.

Henry Ellenson 18th pick Salary:
2017 - $1.7MM
2018 - $1.8MM
2019-2020- Team options. A team at that time could potentially cut ties and move on.

Buddy Hield 6th pick salary:
2017 - $3.5MM
2018 - $3.6MM
2019-2020 - Team options

I think there is definitely a discussion if you think you are a mid to late 1st rounder about returning and entering a supposedly weaker draft the following year, to try to get top 10 pick range.

The only way Bridges isn't top 10 next year in my estimation is an injury, and as I said you can take out an insurance policy against that.

Edit: Hield is a great example of what an extra year of college exposure and improvement can do, along with placing yourself in the right class.
 




Big time roll of the dice by Bridges with his health if nothing else... Anytime your a top 15ish player and your turning it down... The league just last yr spiked all the salaries pretty much with their tv deal kicking in. The sooner you get your clock started on getting to your 2nd contract the better cause that's where the big money is even for journey men. Worrying about being taken 5-10 spots different isn't going to matter nearly as much as if say you were to get hurt at any point limiting your ability to maximize your 2nd contract.

It's great for the B1G. I want good basketball and not a watered down league.

I'm guessing you're one of those guys who likes seeing the North Texas Mean Green and Augustana on the schedules.

I don't care what the name on the Jersey is as long as we win. The NCAA tournament is where you get to prove something against the best of the best.
 


The guy could have a knee injury and maybe still be a first rounder, but if he hurt a disk in his back it probably would cost him a lot more. You can't really play like you want with a bad back-ask Jess Settles. I suppose the knee and the back are the worst things that could happen to a basketball player. I really don't think the Michigan State basketball coach is really looking out for his best interest. Michigan State should have a pretty good team next year, and if he stays healthy they probably will showcase him as their star.
