Brian is the least of the problems on offense

I personally think the entire coaching staff needs a shake-up… but:
1. How would the best OC in the country find a way to move the ball with this offense?
2. We don’t have a decent QB
3. OL is the worst in school history
4. WRs can’t get separation, get open and there is no deep threat.
Basically, Josh Allen himself would struggle to make plays with this offense.

If Iowa doesn’t fit the transfer porthole for a QB, 2-3 OL and 2 deep threat WRs. Next season will be the same if not worse..

I’d agree with you if Brian hadn’t been on the staff as long as he has. How does he have an offensive line this bad? The current state of OL at Iowa is unconscionable. We have a supposed OL guru at HC, a former OL player and coach at OC, and an OL coach who has been coaching that group at the collegiate level for nearly 20 years. I don’t know where to place the majority of the blame, but I can’t pretend that none of it falls on Brian.

Does James want to come coach OL when he’s ready to retire from the NFL? Dude is still jacked and one of the more reliable backup IOLs in the league. Maybe he can be the new Doyle, bring him in as an assistant strength and conditioning and OL coach?

It comes down to the Jimmies and Joes....along with the xs and os. Coaches are responsible for recruiting players and developing them. That is their sole job. They get paid foolish money compared to many in this world to do this line of work. They are extremely lucky to make that much money doing something they love. 2/3 of Iowa staff is getting this done. 1/3 is failing spectacularly.

IMO, you can still do all the stuff that Kirk wants to do on offense but they have to figure out a way to do it out of different formations and different looks.

I know the NIL wasn’t set up as a pay for play, but they are going to have to join the party if they want to get kids out of the portal that can make an impact.

Exactly! Iowa will be left in the dust if they don’t adapt to the NIL

I actually thought Brian called a solid game yesterday. I really do think he is a good play caller and he did the best with what we have. But someone has to take the blame for the talent level. It is not acceptable. That someone is presumably Brian.

Don’t get me wrong Brian is in way over his head. Needs to just be an position coach. But watching the OL get pushed around for the past few years is plain sad.

I got 2 words for you. Charlie Jones. The guy plays for Iowa for 3 years and gets 3 TD catches. He plays for Purdue for 8 games and has 9 TD catches. 72 catches total for Purdue. Purdue's offensive coordinater is the answer to question #1. What would the best OC do with Iowa' talent? And you know who is the Purdue OC? Jeff Brahm's brother Brian Brohm.

Side note: although Purdue and Iowa are very different, they both have an offensive coordinater named Brian who is a close family member of the head coach.

Kirk's not going anywhere for the many reasons already cited, including stubbornness.
That said, only a fool would not agree that changes need to be made to his program and staff.
One thing which is apparent is that talent is not coming to Iowa. It was never a magnet for offensive skill talent, but could be relied upon to attract reasonably good OL talent. Even that is not true anymore, except for the occasional talented Iowa HS recruit, loyal to the Hawkeyes since birth. Recently, we have had more net transfers out on the OL, than in. This past year it was evident no one in the portal, including OL, had any interest in coming to Iowa.
In short, talent is not buying what Iowa is selling.
If we hope to succeed, we need to make changes and improvements to the product (program) to make it more attractive to recruits and transfers.
Overhaul the offensive scheme to the modern game.
Bring in transfers when needed.
Embrace NIL.
Until we bring in better talent it doesnt really matter what play is called, or who calls it. What you see now is what you get.

Stoops brothers are a good case. Mostly the issue is father/son.

Honestly I don't have a problem with hiring family, there are many good football coaches that are in the same family. My issue is when there's a problem and nepotism gets in the way of making the right decisions for the team, which is what feels like is happening here. Granted I know KF does not have a track record of firing coaches mid-season but these offensive problems did not start this year, they started last season. If KF can look anyone in the eye (without blinking 50 million times) and say that he would have kept Davis, O'keefe, or any other coach without a Ferentz last name after last years performance I don't think I'd believe him. This is where the problem is, there is no accountability and if KF does do anything it will be after the season is over and it's created a TON of damage that I'm not sure he can fix.

Agree, but father/son is hard to come by.

...if we are going to go that route then shouldn't we be naming Gary Barta?
Gary Barta is in charge of sports not named Football. He quite literally has no power over Kirk or Brian. He's Brian's boss on paper to get around the technicality of Iowa's nepotism rules, but if you think he has the ability to fire him you're outta your mind.

If Barta walked into Brian's office today and told him he was fired, not only would Brian not get fired, Barta would get a one-way bus ticket out of town. Kirk runs the show.

A couple of questions. Please name the O linemen who have transferred. How do you interpret the steady increase in recruiting rankings for Iowa
over the past 3 or 4 years? What improvements in NIL do you believe would help?
I have read numerous comments demanding that we “modernize” our offense. I would enjoy some specifics on what that means.
I am as upset as anyone with the poor offensive play. Changes need to be made, quickly. Staff members need to be let go.

Kirk is only the God you make him out to be when the Hawkeyes are winning, this power is getting weaker and weaker the longer he keeps letting this crap go and Iowa becomes more and more of an embarrassment. The only reason why Barta can't fire KF is because he has a $42 million buyout, a contract that BARTA negotiated for KF. At the end of the day Barta is still the athletic director and KF still reports to him.
