Brian Gregory is "in the mix"

Gregory can come only if he brings his two top recruits with him...the top 50 kid from Oak Hill and Spearmon from Simeon HS,illinois state champ.

Boylen? Have heard some good things about him,but not sure of his recruiting chops.

What would be the lowest blow ? Knowing that this is the best we can do. Or finding out later on that they turned it down.

Both have there pluses and minuses. I would be excited about Boylen except for the fact his team completely flopped this year and in the tournament last year. He has been at Utah for 3 years. He has plenty of experience in the Big Ten w/ Izzo which I definitely consider a plus. He also has NBA experience. However at Utah I have not been overwhelmed. 1st year was a rebuilding year but he at least had a winning record at 18-15 and it sounded like his team got better. 2nd year he got a fifth seed in the tournament but got beat in the first round by Arizona. His third year, this year, was very disappointing. He did lose 71% of his scoring from the previous year and his top 2 scorers per the Utah media guide but he still returned 3 starters from the previous year. I can see having a down year this year when you graduate that many players but it was pretty obvious he didn't have anybody in the stables to take over.

I don't think he has proven that he can win with his players.

Gregory again has Big ten and recruiting ties into Chicago. However, I think it is fair to say that he has not won consistently with the talent he has.

If we fired Lick for $2.4 million to hire a guy who just finished 14-17 in the MWC I'd ask WHY!!!!!!!?????? Barta should be shown the door if this is the guy he ends up hiring! I'd rather go with Forbes than Boylen or even have given Lick another year! Barbee is my favorite REALISTIC hire. Seriously...Boylen????!!! WHY!!!???

Boylen = FAIL

BTW, Marshall has declined Barta's interview per Todd Brommelkamp via Twitter last night.

Of the three of Boylen, Marshall and Gregory I think I like Marshall's profile the most...of course he turns us down.

The way this search is playing out, I'm wondering if Lick should have stayed considering the names popping up recently.

Let's get off this Lick should have stayed. Lick didn't connect with anything Iowa. The fans, the players and the University. He ended up being a very bad fit.

I don't think he should have, but if we are going to downgrade.....

A change was probably needed. But let's not take steps back.

From a recruiting and style of play standpoint I like Gregory. From a coaching on the floor standpoint I have concerns. I think Dayton this year underachieved.

Interesting that this tweet mentions both Gregory and Boylen but not Wojcik. Gregory and Boylen seem to be the two less popular options.

Lick came in thinking he just had to take over and maintain. He then realized he had alot of work to do in regards to recruiting connections and he just couldn't do it. He compounded things by being very close minded in terms of change. IMO he wanted out but just couldn't swallow the idea of resigning for health reasons to save face for all.
