Any chance they move the Iowa game to the Metrodome to keep the Iowa fans from hauling away the goal posts? The year is reminding me more and more of 2002!

He's been relieved of his head coaching duties. Contract terminated. "Results unacceptable."

News conference at 1PM. He will be replaced by Jeff Horton immediately.
 
StarTribune sports columnist Sid Hartman was (is) on the radio (WCCO) live as the announcement was made. He is livid! Says the mid-season firing will make it impossible to get any good coach to apply for the position. Also says he will warn away any coach who calls him for his opinion. Makes for interesting listening.

That is the right decision. Lame duck status doesn't help anyone. You either make the decision or don't. You don't make half a decision.
 
I think McCarney should wait for a bigger opportunity. Gotta believe that there is something better out there for him soon. I think at this time a MAC job where you can actually win is a better gig than Minnesota.
 
i hope they dont hire leak from texas tech. just another gimmic that is tough to get ready for in 1 week.
 
I was thinking Mike Leech...I think it would be a good hire for them. Although, his teams don't play defense, and we see what happens to those teams in the Big Ten.
 
In his press conference this afternoon, Minnesota AD Joel Maturi saw the need to plead with the worst fanbase in the Big 10, "Please don't boo our kids".

I agree....You could "gimmick" your way to 7 or 8 victories year....If Leach could set his ego aside and hire some old dude a Norm Parker type and let him run the defense, it wouldn't take long maybe a year or two to get that up and running.

Does anybody else find it kind of ironic that this guy is complaining about how difficult it will be to find a good coach, yet in the same breath says he will warn away anybody who calls to ask him for the job?
