Breslin Center- house of horrors

I recall Horner's team just getting throttled at the Breslin Center which caused a pure meltdown amongst Hawkeye fans.

I do believe they turned around the next game and played pretty well.

That place is just a nightmare.

I think you have to have NBA bound talented thugs to almost go in there and compete. You have to be a MAN to compete in that gym.......

I was soooo jealous looking at all the students creating tons of noise. The announcer was spot on saying any championship caliber program has got to have the students in those prime seats. When will Iowa ever learn that they will make the basketball program more valuable as a whole by putting the kids behind the benches instead of those high dollar donors that sit on their hands? Kudos to Michigan State for creating that kind of basketball atmosphere.

Alford's teams never showed up in that building. The game was over by the 2nd TV timeout practically every year. Yet I remember the year one of Alford's teams went on the road and took Illinois (ranked #1 at the time) to OT. Strange they could compete there, but never in Breslin. Breslin has been a house of horrors indeed.

The past 10+ years just happens that MSU has had a very strong run, and Iowa has been mediocre to awful, so it's really not surprising we haven't fared well at all there.

I agree with the previous poster - whoever it is who decides where the students sit in CHA needs to get a clue and create that same type of atmosphere. Of course, it would help if we had a good team where the students would show up - but maybe let students in for free for a while. It seems they've shown up when given free admission, or at least $5 tickets or something.

I will never forget that cold winter night in 1993, when the Hawks went to Breslin just after the loss of Chris Street! What a memorable game! Hard to believe its almost 19 years since we lost one of the greatest Hawks ever.:(
