Now we got one. I'll consider him the first transfer Bens landed in the sense that he wasn't already a Hawk and a former Drake kid that's already played for him.
Kid single handedly helped beat ISU at their place this yr. He's a good sized 2 guard that can shoot outside. We outta be stoked about this cause he'll start next to Stirtz and make for a hell of a backcourt. Hats off to coach he got his man. Wish he had another yr or 2 of eligibility but beggars can't be choosers. Kid put up 27 against St Johns and that's a good defensive team. This is a huge step the right direction.

Yes, this guy shores up the backcourt nicely.

Interesting that K-State played Drake last year and lost in OT. Hasen had his lowest scoring ame of the year, 3 points. But BM still went for him.

We still need some bigs and have a couple coming in to visit this week.

If you think CC had logo range, this dude shoots from deep. Uh, I heard the 2 Chris's talking about this kid and they said, look out if Ben gets this kid and that was like over a week ago before I really even knew he was on our radar. I guess he destroyed the Clones in a game this season.

What's crazy is how many minutes Ben's starters average. Unless these guys get hurt, if they are the best option, they are staying on the floor. He rests his bigs a little more than his guards , but Iowa's starting 5 is going to matter a lot more than it did under Fran. That's the guys who are all taking 30+ a game probably. I know a lot of people are panicking and aren't expecting much out of year 1.... but I think with Bennet, Cooper and Brendan are all going to be nice pieces to build around.

Ben seems to know what he is doing

Piecing together a very nice team that should compete in the Big

A lot has been made of how many mins Ben played his main Drake guys last yr. I'm not as up on if that's how he also did things at MO St or not. I'd find it troublesome if Stirtz is playing 38 mins plus every night. I'm not sure how feasible that'll be in the BIG. I was never a huge advocate for going 9-10 deep like Fran sometimes did either. But to get the best out of your studs you can't run them into the ground before Feb either. So minute distribution will be really interesting this yr.

That's one of the selling points of a slower pace of play. Ben made pretty clear that he'd like to play faster than he did last year, but not at a blazing pace. I would guess that his ideal is more middle of the pack in the B1G, while playing in a way that finds a balance between rest, injury risk, and maximizing the time your best players on the floor. My understanding is that historically, his best point guard has always averaged in the upper thirty minutes.

Um, don't we only have like 7 scholarship guys committed right now? Let's get to double digits and then worry about minutes. :)
Yeah, I think we only have 3 of our 5 starters, or 4 out of 5 starters on the roster. I think all of Iowa's next signees will make more sense from a "ok, this is a dude" aspect vs. the Drake parade. Those guys are all going to be vital and IMO, having them in the mix when acclimating new players is going to be huge towards installing his system and culture, but Iowa is going to have a decent roster when all said and done IMO. Really waiting on a couple of bigs and I will feel better.

Agreed. We currently have one player over 6'7 and no one with appreciable experience playing against Power 5 competition. That said, the Drake guys plays in the second round of the tourney last year, which is as far as Fran has ever gotten in his career. So, I like the foundation we have to date, but yes, we need a couple big dudes to make me feel like we can compete in the Big10.

Yup. We have lots of 6'4-6'8 dudes that can be versatile on both sides of the floor. Now we need a rim protector. A couple would be ideal. The new kid from WDM we just landed if I had to guess might be a redshirt candidate. I'm not so sure he'll be good to go for banging in the BIG right away.

I read something where Koch's dad said his son is putting on weight and should be much improved over last year. I guess Cooper had a collapsed lung before the season started! The article gave no indication how that happened.

I'd also seen that he got his medical RS for that so he's got 4 yrs to play. He's a fascinating player to me. What he develops into will be fun to see. Feels like he's going to bulk up and fill out more. He's listed at 6'8 215. Could be a heck of a 4. Or even a larger athletic 3. Either way with his jumper he's gonna be a hell of a player for us.

Out of all the players on last year's team, Cooper Koch might end up being the best of the bunch. Kid has loads of potential. And BMC is the guy that can unlock that potential on offense and defense.
