Not looking to start an argument, I want to know what you guys think.

Does Brands give Iowa the best chance of getting back on top? Are you happy with the progress we're making?

Who would you suggest replacing him with? That's where this conversation gets tricky. He's the only other coach to win a national title besides Sanderson in the last 6 years.

He benefited from the same thing Sanderson is right now, the transfers coming with him when he took the job.

I have no idea who you would replace him with. Schwab maybe????

I only ask because when Brands won his NCs he still had Gable assisting. Which makes me wonder if it was Brands that got the job done or was it Gable? It's complicated. Brands has done well the past few years bringing in recruits but their performance hasn't been up to par.

Would Iowa have won those championships without all of those Va Tech transfers? Would PSU have won without the players Sanderson brought from ISU?

I still think Sanderson is a hell of a coach and might be the best in college wrestling, but it's not as dramatic as this streak is showing.

I don't think Iowa will ever get back to winning multiple titles. too many programs are putting then the money into wrestling. See it kind of like Nebraska in football except I don't see us not being a top ten team

Explain what you mean by that.

Some years ago I assisted with some wrestling camps that the Brands Brothers ran. At that time I would say that he was the best choice for our program. With that said, I look at the program now and I have no dought that he is the right coach as far as teaching technique etc, but the question in my mind is does he have the ability to get into the head of our team and get more out of each wrestler than said wrestler thought he could. This is what made Gable so great. He could take an average to above average wrestler and make them an all American or even a NCAA Champ.(see Ray Brizner). On the other hand who would we get? first choice would be Schwab, next might be Ryan from Ohio St.

What your really saying but don't have the guts to say is that, you don't think Brands is the coach for the Hawks, and it's time for a change. That's pretty obvious.

I don't really know at this point. Brands has 3 NCs at Iowa since coming here but all of those were with his wrestlers that followed him and with Gable in the room with him helping. Since Gable stepped away there has been a lot of disappointments with the team which does draw in some questions for me. I have absolutely no idea who else you could replace him with or how much time you give the guy.

Lastly, Iowa wrestling strives for NCs. How long will the drought be before Brands is on the hot seat? Does that even happen?
