Brandon Wegher?

I heard the supplemental NFL draft.

Obviously he isn't eligible for another year, but if by some minor miracle Wegher were to make the NFL after playing at Morningside for a year or two (NAIA players make it once in awhile, and I think he has the talent to play in the league), how would Iowa fans feel about it? Would we claim him and take pride in it, or would it be like the Benny Sapp situation where we quietly ignore the fact that he has been a successful pro?

IMO, and not speaking for anyone else on this board, it's always cool to see people that you at one point or another supported in the pros. That said however, he's no longer a Hawkeye so I really don't care personally. Players grow on people and the things they do inpact how they are perceived. He was a Hawkeye for a season, but left before I could really take a liking to. BW made a choice to leave the program and what he does no longer has any inpact on me so if he makes the pros great for him, but will I care? not really.
And on the Benny Sapp situation. I don't think anyone ignores the fact that he's had a successful career, the fact is that he was once a Hawkeye, but went elsewhere. It's not we don't care its the fact he didn't spend 3 or 4 years bleeding black and gold to influence our perception of him. IMO just because someone is a Hawkeye doesn't necessarily mean were going to be lifelong fans, its what they do as a Hawkeye that creates that bond and lifetime following.

He can practice because they are assuming he will get into the college and will be eligible plus it is voluntary practices. My thought is that if he seriously thinks he can make it to the pros he will play 1 or 2 years at Morningside and transfer to a division 1 school to show what he can do against top talent again. The kid obviously has had some problems and hopefully he can get himself back on track. I know one thing I will have to go see him tear that league up at my college if it ends up working out.

Hopefully he will get his life back on track. Unfortunate how things played out at the U of Iowa but again, we are talking about kids. Yes, he is old enough to know right from wrong but when I think back to when I was 18/19 I am pretty confident some of my decision making was not the best. Hopefully he will continue his education and take care of the things he needs to take care of ...

Jesus, if he's in the same playing shape this season that he was when he ran for the Hawks I feel sorry for the defensive coordinators in that league! Not4Cy you're a d-bag. But at least you're Not4Cy!

My thought is that if he seriously thinks he can make it to the pros he will play 1 or 2 years at Morningside and transfer to his third division 1 school to show what he can do against top talent again. The kid obviously has had some problems and hopefully he can get himself back on track. I know one thing I will have to go see him tear that league up at my college if it ends up working out.

Wow.

Getting back on topic. A poster on one of the pay boards posted today that Wegher has enrolled in Iowa Western and per the posters words said that if he proves himself on the field and in the classroom Iowa may offer him for the 2012 class. Not sure if it is true but I figured since this was becoming such a heated topic I would get it out there.
