Brandon Snyder

When Snyder first got significant playing time he made a lot of mistakes and he whiffed on a lot of tackles. But as time progressed, he got better, by the end of the '16 season he was solid. That being said, given the state of football right now, having a big safety that likes to blow people up I am not sure that is what you are looking for. Having a mature and experienced safety in this scheme probably trumps that, however.

I am ok with a Hooker/Snyder combo as starters. The light bulb was was coming on for Snyder before the injuries and Hooker has a huge upside.

This is on point as all 4 dbacks especially the safeties are like the centerfielder in baseball, one wrong step and it can be a ball over the head for a two run triple or with safeties it could be giving up a TD. KF had great safety play during 2001-6 and on some other teams. When they can fill holes and stop big runs but also correctly read and break up deeper passes it is a huge difference. I should know as I misplayed a few or more balls in the outfield.

I’m a NW Iowa resident and a fan of Snyder, but I say Gervase is the guy. He got thrown to the wolves a couple years ago when Snyder got hurt and rose to the occasion.

Snyder is a guy who makes “splash plays,” but people don’t stop and realize that he misses more tackles than he makes. His tackling style is to fly in horizontal at Mach 3 with his head down and knock guys over with his forearms. As a result of not pursuing and not wrapping guys up he whiffs a ton.

Snyder basically picks a spot he thinks the runner is going to be in at the time of impact and flies in like a missle. That works in high school and JUCO, not in big kid football. The only person who’s really ever made that work was Troy Polamalu and, well...Snyder ain’t that. Gervase has a little bit of linebacker in him in that he will pursue with his eyes and go wrap up and make a tackle.

Snyder needs to realize that you don’t have to kill a guy every play...you miss too much like that. He’s not as good as a Bob Sanders, not even close, and all you need to do in a lot of cases is wrap someone up and slow the play down enough to get LB help finishing it off.

Gervase does play that way and he’s got a hardcore positive attitude too. Snyder seems to let the rhetoric and faith talk get in the way. Let your playing do the talking, and let staying out of trouble be what restores your reputation, not apologies.
That's just it, you should know not to try and light up a guy who has 25 pounds on you play after play. There are times to do both and that is what made Bob special he hit like a truck, but also used his arms well that you probably were not going to get away. His style was aggressive but also smart.

So it's yet to be determined if/how long Snyder might be suspended then? I'm a tad confused on that part of things with where he stands. I just assume that one isn't serving a suspension if they are hurt like he was. I'll be surprised if he doesn't miss a game or 2 I guess is my take on it. I know everyone likes the guy and feels for him in regards to his injuries and walking on and all that. But to say that he'd been 'punished enough' due to rehab doesn't fly with me. Sitting out when you can play is what suspensions are to be all about I would think anyway...

He was suspended for the Pinstripe, and now he is in good standing. KF said as such in a recent interview.

Talk about a deep position group. I don't have a preference as to who plays amongst those safeties so much as I want the best ones out there. Hooker to me has shown he's an absolute playmaker. I think he's pretty well penciled in to one of the spots. The other one seems like a 3 horse race and I'd rather have a great backup than a huge question mark

Ok thanks. That being the case I'm not down with that. Not sure how you all may feel about it. But he couldn't have suited up for that game due to injury right? That just rubs me wrong. If you physically can't play how can it be a punishment to be benched? To me suspensions due to behavior/academics etc should only begin once physically cleared to play. That way your truly missing time due to it. Guess that's just me..

I can see that. I think the counter argument is that he was forced to be away from the team and to miss the trip altogether. DUI is a pretty serious deal, so I would be okay with it being harsher.

Missing a bowl game trip is a big deal I don't want to short change what that is. But that said the fact he'd have just been standing there on crutches if he was at it just sort of makes it irrelevant to me from a punishment angle. I mean if that's all he ends up getting for it is instead of freezing his ass off on the sidelines for that game was he had to stay home and watch it on TV like I did I almost think that's a mercy for him. I'm with you DUI is a big time deal. Just because he didn't crash and or hurt anyone shouldn't take away from just how bad of a decision that that is.
