Brady Ellingson Is A Top 10 Shooter in 2014

Some nice news on an otherwise down day. I haven't seen a lot of National news on him, and Iowa needs shooters!

I've said it before but I really think Ellingson is going to surprise a lot of people next year. His shooting numbers are much better than the highly ratede ISU freshman bust Matt Thomas and Ellingson played against much better competition.

Posts like this make me hope he can shoot just as well as Ogelsby but perhaps bring more athleticism and can take minutes from Josh.

Arey hopes crazy and out of reach?

He has 4 guards ahead of him, three of whom are upperclassmen. Chances are he isn't used or needed much for a while, just like Jok last season.

I now predict Matt Thomas will go 20 for 20 from the three point line next year against Iowa, the last one he wears a blind fold.

Dumb to consider any kid a bust after his freshman years, just dumb.

Not when you consider Clown fans were lauding him as the best high school shooter in the country as a senior.

I too agree Brady could surprise some people. Many on this board have been less than enthused at the signing. He might not play a lot next year but long run I think he has a solid career. From the video I've seen posted on this site of him, he isn't flashy but seems to have a good feel for the game and can shoot it.

Thomas shot 37% from 3 and made the second most threes of any freshman in Iowa State history. The "disappointment" was a result of unrealistic expectations, and I was involved in them too.

The only reason that Iowa State fans were saying he was the best shooter in the class is because several recruiting sites said it. You know, kind of what Iowa fans are doing in this thread.

Unless there's an injury, I'd think he'd be a strong candidate for a redshirt. With Gesell, Dickerson, Clemmons, Oglesby, and Jok all in the back court, minutes will be tough.

Yes, even then. We know ISU has unreasonable expectations for every player, just as most Iowa fans do.

Were there more freshman that shot better than he did from 3pt this year?

He very well could have been the best highschool senior shooter, but that was high school. I'm not getting my hopes up for Brady, hope he surprises me though.

For everyone that wants to bag on ISU fans being homers and playing little brother, Iowa fans sure do the same thing quite often on this board.

You can make up facts if it makes you feel better but he shot 33.6% on 3pt's this year and fell out of the rotation by the end of the year. Thomas only shot 35% from 3 against poor competition in Wisconsin, not sure why you would expect him to do better against B12 talent.

From "best shooter in the country" and "the next Fred Hoiberg" to not even playing in the B12 championship game. That's a bust LOL.

anyway. I called Ellingson a Kent Macausland clone, but he looks better than that -- much better. Fran knows how to spot talent.

In his game footage, and in some workout videos posted, he looks athletic enough to play in the Big Ten, has a decent handle, and is certainly no less than Oglesby. The thing I like -- and I noted this after looking at the AAU vids from last summer, is that he seems to have a habit, like Aaron White, of always getting a half step on more athletic players to still get his shot off -- he's canny like that. He could turn out to be a steal.

He was 2-2 in the big 12 championship game.

Thomas underperformed to expectations and I'm sure nobody is more disappointed than him. The guy was a consensus ~50 recruit. To consider him a bust at all at this point is absurd.

Not only does Hoiberg not think he can go into next year with Thomas at the starting two, but he doesn't even feel comfortable with Thomas as the starting two guard two years from now. I'll be very surprised if Thomas finishes his career at ISU.

Well, history tells us that 40% of the players who start at ISU under Fred leave ISU, so this prediction is not that far off.

I'm glad our coach does it the right way.

When have Clown fans ever had "unrealistic expectations"? I find this hard to believe.
