Brad Rodgers at RB?

If Jewel is out for 4 weeks, any chance you think they move Rodgers back to RB? Rumor had it he almost got his redshirt pulled off him last year. If Jewel is out longer, need to pull the shirt off of Johnson or Coker...

The old Ravens and Browns RB?

Or Jermelle Lewis from the 2002-04 teams? I loved that guy. Still have his #29 jersey!

I'm with you there! Not many people realize that Jermelle was rated as one of the best RB's in his class. Bear in mind that his class also contained Cedric Benson, Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Frank Gore, and Kevin Jones. That's pretty elite company (considering how well all those guys did in college). He could have been really special. He never reached his potential, but it was not his fault. We'll never know just how good he could have been. He could possibly have been the guy whose bar Shonn Greene would have been compared to. But Jermelle will always be one of my favorite Hawkeyes, no doubt.

I'll never forget his TD at Michigan in 2002. "Jermelle Lewis is in the house, THE BIG HOUSE!" (or something along those lines. He also took the time to chat with me at the first ever Fanfest following that season (I thought that was pretty cool as I was just 17 at the time). Awesome guy.

Portland: I just keep thinking that Rogers at RB is another one of these Hawk fan fantasies that is based completely in our own minds. There has never been any real indication that he is Running Back material. He has been at fullback since the second he started to practice at Iowa.

Think we need to let this one rest. Now, might it be possible that he ends up in the backfield in a lone back pass formation? Sure. But I would expect that we would see the guys recruited to run the ball to get reps at RB first.

Really? why would they have pulled the redshirt on him last year in the Michigan State game? Morse was fully healthy-- why would they said they may pull his shirt to play fullback? it is not as if he is BIGGER than Clay or Dayne. Bottom line we will need someone to fill in.

At some point, Iowa was going to have to play someone at RB. But if you look at KF's comments about about that, he basically laughed when people asked him about running Rogers and said something to the effect of, let's pray it doesn't come down to that. Last year is just not a good indication because Iowa was close to being down to no backs. Could they have pulled the RS? Sure. Did they? No.

When you fast forward to this year, things are way different. Iowa has two highly regarded freshman RB's. It just isn't the same as last year. I would expect either of these guys to get the shot first if need be instead of converting Rogers. Also, by some people's accounts, it sounds like Morse could have been nicked in the AZ game.

Your right..... we should burn the redshirt on both Freshmen running backs. I mean rogers is too big to play rb at 5'10, 210 lbs...

I thought if jewel was only going to miss 3 to 4 weeks.we wouldn't need to burn a shirt... my bad.

Realistically we can probably get by this week with only 1RB much like we did in week one. We will have to mix it up a bit more offensively, utilize a quick passing game on 1st down once in a while, and maybe even give the ball to Morse and or Rodgers a bit as fullbacks. Remember we do have a personel group that features 3wr 1te and 1fb. We used that extensively with Cervantes and we ran the ball using it. It's really irrelevent whether or not Rodgers is listed as a FB or a RB if we do that. I don't thinks it's likely that he lines up behind Morse in an I formation any time soon.

I'm guessing we'll at least see Deandre Johnson this Saturday. They'll need to begin to get the running game squared away for conference play.

Wow. That is a pretty brusk response. I was just saying that there has never really been any indication that Rogers has been seriously considered at RB, which is accurate.

As Hawk fans we really are kept in the dark like no other fan base in America. Accordingly, we have to do a lot of speculating. However, this speculation often ends up being unfounded. We really just have to go by what we see through evidence. The evidence we currently have is that Rogers has only been considered at fullback.

It might not be that he is too big. He might just not have some necessary skill to succeed as the deep back in Iowa's zone read scheme. Who knows? Again, in another city, our press would have that question answered more effectively. However, it is a little too much to expect at Iowa.

Also, when did I say we should burn BOTH shirts for our freshmen?

No doubt. But dude, you can't blame me. Our coaches give up nothing. And the Iowa press just rolls over. We are totally left in the dark. KF this week said that Coker was second and they were going to give reps to Rogers.

But just like the first game, they wouldn't say that MacMillan was going to start when they obviously knew.

That being said, Geez Rogers looks good.
