IOWA CITY, IA – Former University of Iowa All-America quarterback Brad Banks has been named honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Tennessee Tech. The Hawkeyes face the Golden Eagles in a nationally televised game on BTN with kickoff set for 11:01 a.m., in Kinnick Stadium. The game is sold out, which means Iowa has sold out 50 of its last 52 home games.
Banks led the 2002 Hawkeye football team to a Big Ten co-championship. Iowa had a perfect 8-0 league mark and an overall record of 11-2. The 2002 Hawkeyes made their first appearance in a BCS bowl game by playing Southern Cal in the FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami.
Banks was runner-up to USC’s Carson Palmer in the 2002 Heisman Trophy race. He won the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top collegiate quarterback and was a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year. He was named Big Ten Player of the Year and the Big Ten’s Most Valuable Player following a spectacular campaign. He was also a co-MVP for the Hawkeyes.
During the 2002 season the Hawkeyes set an all-time school record for touchdowns in a season (60). Banks had 2,996 yards of total offense that year, a figure that still ranks third in the Iowa record books. His career passing efficiency (155.53) is still the best in Iowa football annals.
Banks will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game and on the sidelines during the contest.

I saw Banks filling up his Benz wagon at the QT on Douglas and 100th in Urbandale about a month ago.

I only noticed him because of the cool Hawkeye dri fit shirt he was sporting. I was like...hey...that's a sweet shirt. Oh...hey...that's Brad Banks wearing that sweet shirt.

LOL

He is not a big dude, btw. It's a good thing he's elusive.

good choice. love to see them honor past hawkeyes and keep them in the fold.

here's to hoping the same for ricky in 10 years or longer after a nice NFL career.

wonder if we'll get AC or one of the guys drafted this year back for a game on their week off.
