Boycott CBS!

hawkfaninTX,

I will have to respectfully disagree with your assumption that he is protected with his 1st amendment rights.

Whether his employment contract is written or verbal he is bound to honor company policies and procedures as a condition of employment.

Since contract law is supreme in this case, even above the Constitution, and if he violated any company policy he subjects himself to whatever disciplinary actions his employer deems apporpriate.

Gosh some of you guys are naive!

Is there any evidence that CBS has no knowledge of what he's writing? Is there any evidence that they don't support him 100%? I don't see it. The company won't punish him because the company stands by what he writes.

I doubt if a few dozen cranks in Iowa emailing him are going to change their minds.

+1

are you going to listen to March Madness on the radio? quite possibly the only thing that rivals the bowls for me when it comes to sports entertainment on TV.

Actually, yes. The Hawks aren't in the NCAA Tournament this year, barring a miracle of playing the way they did against MSU for four consecutive days.

CBS shows I currently watch, none. But they don't have to know that. Basically, if they get enough emails from pi$$ed off people there is a slim, very slim, chance something might be done to Dodd and Doyell.

Hahaha. Love it. If they get enough emails....wait for it.....Dodd gets a RAISE!!

Hey boss, look at how many page hits I have been getting!!

Iowa fans are making these guys more successful and they don't even know it

If you really want something to happen you need to rile up patient's rights groups and the medical community. Need to get it out of the sports context. This is like the Kenneth Cole Egypt comment. It wouldn't mean anything if the uproar occurred only within the fashion world.

So, instead of trying to get a boycott started from one of the smallest alumni bases in the Big Ten, start contacting people who can make this really matter.

Not to burst your bubble, but Dodd & Doyel would have a case because of that very reason. That is my only point!

EDIT: not to mention that you're making pretty BIG assumptions you know inner-workings of his contract. Even if he was to be let go, CBS would be stuck paying him. Dodd & Doyel are in a win-win situation.

Iowafarmgirl,

I'm not quite making the connection as to how stating a fact of law makes one naive. To each their own.

Again it is unclear to me what "evidence" and "no knowledge" that CBS had of his writing has to do with what I posted.

Can an employee violate company policy and terms of his employment contract without repercussion? Sure - if the employer chooses to look the other way.

I'm not suggesting that CBS Sports will do anything about it if Dodd violated the terms of the employment contract. I am merely stating that IF he did then CBS Sports has the power and right to enforce the terms of the contract.

Contrary to what another poster "believes" if Dodd were fired and he sued for violation of his 1st Amendment right the first thing that will be determined if there is a contract in play and what those terms are. The court will uphold the contract first and foremost.

Naivete is to think one can cause harm to the company they work for by saying anything they want, reap what they sowed, and then claiming protection under the 1st Amendment

and you are naive if you think CBS sports "journalists" only get hate mail from cranks in iowa. are you so naive to think that they only write bad things about iowa or are you just so close minded as to think there is nothing else going on in the college football world than what is on this message board.

it really doesnt matter because whichever poster made the comment that it doesnt matter what he writes its the hits on the page and email traffic, good or bad, that really matters

There is too many "ifs" in this response. Yea, IF it is clearly laid out in his contract that certain statements made (like the one in question) would bring about termination. But you are ASSUMING that particular verbiage is within his contract. Usually "shock-jock's" like them are given free reign. IF ge was to be let go- I would be willing to wager with anyone that CBS would eat his contract (or at least have to pay some sort of severance).

hawkfaninTX, why do you assume you know more about their contracts than the next person? do you have some insider info we dont? im just asking. It just seems like more often than not threads get hi-jacked by you with some irrelevant ******* match with someone else. Its like you have to be right even when you have no more facts than the person you argue with.

just an observation, someone correct me if im wrong. i wont argue about it.

He knows more than the average person. He works at a gym.

No question everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I find it rather amusing to see someone fight a losing battle over a journalist/reporters job. Their is a line that could be crossed. I think the simple fact that nothing has been done to these guys validates my reasoning. these people know they are saying unreasonable and "reprehensible" things, but it is what they are paid to do. Remember: if it bleeds, it leads.

I can honestly say I've never read anything from CBS Sports unless it was posted on here.

The only thing the two d-bags have done is make sure that I will continue to look elsewhere for my sports information.

You completely misread what I wrote, because from what I can gather, we agree on everything.

One degree, two majors? Interesting. I never knew a degree could be 'split'.
You know what, chief? You're full of sh!t. And I think you're a cyclown fan.

History is done, only a couple semesters from completing poli sci. 1 1/2 degrees. You could say I have an emphasis in poli sci from my work with early political theory.

-Vintage whatever I would have said or studied you wouldn't have been impressed. I would have expected that response from you, but don't hate.

FREE SPEECH

Bill of Rights

FREE SPEECH

It's OK that Dodd and Doyell and Forde talk about the HAWKS!

It's free press, free pub and anyone who can think and can discriminate and can make up their own mind...its all good for the Hawkeyes.

That's why Ferentz and Barta and the rest are so low key...

These interwebbing, Al Gorring creating blabbermouths, that are only a 0 away from 1. a bit from a bite, don't matter at all.
