Boy Gene is arrogant piece of work isn't he

IMO, a huge percentage of Auburn's success is attributed to Cam Newton. Regardless of the shady circumstances surrounding his recruitment.

Newton is the type of player that a coach will get to see maybe once or twice on his team in his career. Florida is still looking for their next Tebow (although they had Newton but he transferred), Texas is still looking for their next Vince Young, Oklahoma for their next Adrian Peterson, USC for their next Reggie Bush, etc.....

Iowa and KF looking for the next... Bob Sanders? Dallas Clark? Brad Banks? Shonne Greene?

My point is that very special players make for very special seasons. Auburn is having theirs right now.

Seriously guys? What you think the Iowa football team is made up of MENSA candidates? You don't think Iowa lowers its academic standards for athletes?

PUH-LEASE!

Also nice call by Antonio Ramos on Reggie Evans. His senior day speech was one of the seven wonders of the world and ought to be placed in the library of congress.

I distinctly remember watching that and looking around Carver thinking, 15,500 people are really embarrassed right now and don't know whether to laugh or cry.

My memory of Reggie is when the Hawks won the 2001 Big Ten Tourney and they interviewed him and Brody Boyd after the game on the podium. Evans just kept repeating "He big time, He big time!!" while rubbing Boyd's head.

Cracks me up still almost 10 years later.

The teams and agents put them in classes during their rookie year to teach them how to manage money now. In a few years you will see this go down with them losing all of their money. Before the teams would just give them these fat *** checks and throw them to the wolves.

mac - the reason a vast majority of nfl guys lose it is because they haven't had to take care of ANYTHING on their own, let alone their finances. From college on, they have people doing everything for them - they are just following a schedule. once they leave that system, they can't function as no one is there telling them what to do, when to do it. that is why they get into trouble with their money. that is not going to change with a couple financial classes.

i know the above is painted with a pretty broad brush, but it is a fairly good generalization of the issue.

So Mac, you think these guys who didn't learn a damn thing in 4-5 years of college are all of a sudden going to become Warren Buffet like with a half hour investment class in training camp where they are also practicing 3 times a day and trying to learn a playbook thicker than the New York City phone directory? The fact is you don't change an attitude and lifestyle by means of an investment course. Far too many of these guys will continue to be broke when their careers have ended.

Someone please explain to me how Nick Fairley is passing any of his classes. Was that English?!

Passing classes? How bout just explaining how he even gets into college?!

Somewhere out there, has got to be a sports journalist with the guts to do a "Why the SEC is so good" story. There's enough funny money and guys who can barely write their name to make one hell of an expose'.

Maybe I am missing something but I didn't think Chizik came off as that arrogant. He thanked the fans, his coaches and administration a million times. I don't think that is arrogant. The guy won a national title. Would you b e saying the same thing if Chip Kelly made the same comments as Gene?

I think Chizik is a good coach but the difference of him being at ISU and being at Auburn is this: The level of his assistant coaches. Chizik was smart ... Auburn opened the coffers for Gene to hire top-notch assistant coaches and pay those coaches a boat load of money. I think the assistant coaches are the main reason Gene experienced so much success (and, of course, Cam N.).

It was a heck of a national title game. Seems some people are fixated with Gene and not quite sure why that is ... Gene coached at ISU ... not at Iowa ... Also, sorry to disappoint you, but Iowa has its share of not-so-smart players on its roster as well.

I had this discussion with a co-worker today. We both felt something was just "wrong" with Gene's postgame interview and during the trophy presentation. He didn't look comfortable, never cracked a smile, and he never gave Oregon any credit for playing a tough game. He's classless. We're lucky to have Kirk, who always give the other team credit.

My take on Gene is that he's cheating at Auburn and he feels guilt. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Auburn goes on probation in the next couple of years.

You know what the #1 rule of coaching in the SEC conference is don't you (unwritten rule of course)......... If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'!

IMO if Gene were really that good of coach, he would have left ISU with something. He didn't. And Paul Rhodes is doing a heck of a job with what he has to work with. I think Gene really reaped the benefits of Tommy Tubberville's efforts. Except for that running back, Dyer. I think they said he was a freshman?

I seriously think that the movie Idiocracy may have it right. Dumb people tend to reproduce younger and more often than smart people. This means smart people have to compete with more dumb people for genetic mates and reproduction. In a few generations, this could lead to the collapse of society.

For the love of all that is holy, if you have an I.Q. over 120, please, please start having children, lest Forrest Gumps take over our planet.

I agree guys like Saban, Belichek, Meyer, Mack Brown, Cheez nuts are arrogant, but what do they have that KF doesnt? Championships.

I tell you one thing. Gene got the last laugh on me. I thought he was going to fall flat on his face. I remember when i posted this.

Belichick isn't arrogant, at least not in the loud, cocky way that cheezedick and rex ryan and bert bielema are.
He's a very quiet guy in front of the media, preferring yes and no answers. Yes, he's being cagey and it's part of his schtick, but honestly, he does not fit the definition of arrogant.
He's a lot like KF, quite frankly (or rather, KF is a lot like BB).

Belichick is arrogant in the quiet, "you're not worth my acknowledgement" sort of way. He's not ultra-conservative when it comes to on-the-field issues. He believes that he can't be stopped. And while not vocal, one only needs to look at his little episode with Mangini a couple years ago.

Belichick is certainly arrogant. However, it's justified in his case. He's a genius, and he knows it (I'm even a Colts fan, and I'll admit he's a genius). He doesn't say much, because he knows he doesn't have to. The guys you mentioned are arrogant too, but haven't done near enough to deserve being so, and look like fools more often than not. Belichick just looks like a genius.
