Not bad for the Insight Bowl, 460% jump from last year.

wow, Cap One sucked on ratings, considering it is a more prestigious bowl than several with ratings above it like Outback.

The orange bowl needs to reconsider their time slot choice. Didn't that bowl used to be right after the rose bowl?

Blowouts don't get good ratings. That game was never really close and with so many other games going on at the same time fans watched something else.

I'm not 100% sure, but I heard that most of the BCS bowls had better ratings last year when they were on FOX. If true, I think that's interesting.

BCS bowls on ESPN and not over the air Fox means 15% fewer homes.

Insight on ESPN this year vs NFL network last year, big change...but its a solid rating considering it was also a 9pm central kick. Real good number.

You can skew these numbers anyway you want, USA Today had a good article last week about this, for specific bowls numbers were up, but overall numbers were down, down substantially from last year.

Anyone notice how poor the ratings were for the Gator Bowl? 7th worst for this bowl season. It really looks like Michigan's national brand moved the needle on that one. I think that might help future bowls for Iowa if Michigan is not pulling the TV audience it use to. Not trying to over sell this one game but it is at least an interesting side angle.

It probably didn't help that at the same time 10.7 million people were watching the Outback or Cap. One bowls.

I am frankly suprised that so many people watched the Insight Bowl considering it was really late in the evening and competing against NFL football. I expected around 1 million people watching.

As IFG mentioned, there were several other games going on, and Michigan got drubbed. I'd be interested to know how many people were watching through the first quarter, when the game was actually pretty interesting. The second quarter would have run off a lot of viewers who were watching, as well as keep away new viewers. Blowouts are bad for ratings, especially when they're in direct competition with other primary programming. And great games make for great ratings (see Giants-Patriots Super Bowl, where the ratings were great to begin with and then went nuts in the final 8-10 minutes).

Anybody know how they determine how many TVs are tuned into the game? Do I have to watch the entire game to be counted? The first 5 minutes only? Halftime? The last 5 minutes? 50% of the game? Just curious...

Do these ratings include DVR? I recorded the game, haven't watched it and am running out of space and trying decide between deleting the game or a couple episodes of Pawn Stars.

You're kidding right? Chumley and Big Hoss over an Iowa bowl victory? :)
