Bowl system will never be good again.

You most certainly can. A playoff would make the regular season much more meaningful.

If all the "BCS" conferences added enough teams to have championship game then all the conference champions would then advance to a playoff.

That would truly make the regular season a "playoff" from game one.

As it stands the regular season is still influenced by voters, which is absurd, and the bowl selection is much more influenced by which teams can produce the most money rather than which teams had the best seasons.

Again damned if you do damned if you don't, it wouldn't work anyways unless EVERY team would join a conference. if you go by just conference champions than a team like ND would never have a chance at the championship and we all know they would fight tooth and nail just so they don't have to join a conefrence. like I said I understand that people hate the way it's set up (i don't mind it but do agree that there needs to be fewer bowls) but it would be harder than people seem to understand to set up a playoff system in which everyone is happy

What's the difference between now and the past? Why were they good then but aren't now? Bowls have always been meaningless end of season exhibitions so why is 2011/12 the breaking point?

Are you advocating that only conference champs make the playoff?

A system consisting of only conference champions would make non-conference games meaningless. Non-conference games make up 3 or 4 games on a schedule which is either 1/4 or 1/3 of your schedule.

A 4-team playoff is perfect (2004).

Except when an 8-team playoff is perfect (2008).

Except when a 2-team playoff is perfect (2006).

Except when a 1-team coronation is perfect (2011).

Um... playoffs are perfect!!!

?

(I secretly hate Iowa bowl games)

Well then, top 8. What I'm saying is they could manage playoff system, and keep all the meaningless bowls if they wanted to.

Then the bowls "left out" of the system become like the NIT.

Having two tiers of post-season has really worked out in basketball.

Fewer bowl games is less likely than a playoff.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they just started letting everyone play in a bowl.

Yeah, just like winning the lottery is less likely than me turning purple. Since neither is going to happen, why discuss it at all?
