Bowl selection day (and the system in general)

This system is just messed. up. to me man. It's twisted in the head. How do you objectively make these decisions when teams DON'T PLAY THE SAME AMOUNT OF GAMES?!

I mean could you imagine this in the NFL?! Well, the Packers are 12-2, and the Bears are 15-1 and won the division by three games, but we're going to put the Packers in the playoffs because they beat the Patriots and the Seahawks in the regular season. Tough luck Bears!

Honestly. This is the equivalent of the system we have.

Hey Penn State, congrats on winning your division within conference, winning the B1G Championship, and beating Ohio State head to head. But better luck next year!

Yes, PSU probably had an easier schedule than OSU. Yes, PSU isn't as "sexy" and its brand doesn't have the same power as OSU. Yes, PSU honestly probably isn't as good or talented a team as OSU. Yes, PSU didn't win the ESPN-dubbed "greatest game in the history of Western civilization" Michigan-OSU game.

But PSU won the conference championship. It made it deeper into the season than OSU. It beat OSU head-to-head when the teams squared off.

So when the committee puts OSU in the Playoffs tomorrow, and in doing so stiffs Penn State by sending Penn State to some now-meaningless "New Years 4" bowl to play Western Michigan, the committee will be making it loud and clear that they're subjectively making these decisions. They'll put whoever the hell they want in there.

Everyone should be judged on an equal level. And if it takes *gasp* expanding the Playoff field to accomplish that, well then that needs to be sacrificed for objectivity's sake.

PSU will be in - and money tO$U won't - done deal. Can't pay their way in ... sorry for the bad news

Welp, until they do like 100 game round robin season, you will be disappointed.

PSU won in a fluky way @ home. PSU today is who the committee thought they were yesterday, which is the 6 or 7 team. Better than Wisconsin, but not a top 4.

Bama vs. Washington
OSU vs. Clemson.

The 2 and 3 spots might swap from last week, but that only changes which sideline they stand on in the game.

You have some valid points but karma can be a bitch and I hope that cult of PSU gets locked out.

The B1G is tarnished as long as they are in the league.

The system will be never be perfect. Will never include enough teams in the playoffs to satisfy everyone. Look at basketball. Teams get left out and people bitch and look at how many get in. It is what it is. Can't have college players playing 20 game seasons.

I honestly think it should be Bama, Clemson, Penn State, Washington but the committee will rig this thing. They will drop Washington based on their weak out of conference schedule and put is OSU. If that weren't bad enough they will put OSU at 3 to try and set up the money matchup with Bama. The computers weren't perfect but they weren't biased like this joke of a system.

This. The Big 10 should have thrown them out when they had the chance.

Penn State should stop whining. If they wanted to be in the playoff, they should have beat Pittsburgh...end of story. That loss keeps you out in my opinion. Sure, OSU lost to Penn State...at Penn State and it was not a beat down...it was a bizarre game where Penn State blocked a field goal and scored 7...they don't win otherwise. Oh, and they lost by 39 to Michigan. The system isn't set up to wholly reward teams for how they are playing at the end of the year...it's certainly a factor, but you have to win at the beginning of the year too. What big game did Penn State win on the road? OSU won at Oklahoma. Done deal.

Penn State has no major win on the road, their road wins, Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland, are ridiculous. Their only true road tests, Pitt and Michigan, beat them. You can't reward a team for winning at home and losing their only true road games against decent competition. They played all the tough teams at home.

Everyone who is saying Penn st. shouldn't be in the playoff would be losing their mind if it was Iowa in Penn st.'s position.

that's ridiculous. They lost twice...everyone ahead of them has lost once. Granted, they beat OSU at HOME...but OSU just beat the team that beat Penn State by 39. I would not be saying Iowa belonged. I might be saying it would have been great to have a play in game to see how we could do in the playoff because the team is peaking at the right time...but Iowa wouldn't be deserving either. I don't think the argument is close either in the committee room.

I can't stand ESPN and the influence they try to push. They only care about the final 4 teams and the top 5-8 teams that are in the mix for it. As for the other teams and bowl games, ESPN and their big mouthed on air people don't give a rats ass.

Outside of the semifinals, what other bowl games matter nationally? This is a national show, they're not going to focus on the Outback Anteater Tires Plus Pinstripe Bowl presented by Go Daddy and Taxslayer.

Should Clemson be in they didn't beat Pittsburgh at Home!?!?

Yeah completely agree. The other day Kevin Conners the host of sportscenter basically said that because the country wants to see Michigan play Ohio State again, that should be the reason Michigan gets in the CFP. Good God. Leave it to espn sports anchors to try and influence the nation and they way the committee elects the CFP.

Hell if it was up to espn why even play the games?

Vote them in on popularity.

The problem with this decision is that it now sets a precedent that conference championships and head to head do not matter. Every program which isn't a blue blood should be upset because now they have NO shot unless they go undefeated. Bad precedent to set.
