Bowl Season

Every year it gets less and less appealing watching 6-6 teams that are just not good. There are about 10 bowls that are just awful.

Remember when teams didn't make bowls going 7-4, made it a heck of a lot more satisfying seeing your team in a bowl when a real record got teams in.

When the playoff system starts I hope the really meaningless bowls that ESPN thrives on for "Capital One Bowl Week" disappear as sponsors will be throwing themselves on the playoff games.

Lets see an football Big East vs. ACC, yeah I passed on that game, the two worst BCS conferences playing in a bowl game.

As bad as the BIG was this year, I think they are still better than either of those conferences.

With less games better teams play each other. You didn't see games like the Iowa/OU matchup very often...complete mismatches.

Sorry the bowl season isn't amusing you. It must suck living life with such high standards.
 


I did watch some of the Rutgers/Va Tech in the Victoria's Secret Pink Bra & Panties Bowl. Wow, eyes are still bleeding.

13-10 OT thiller. Rutgers is primed to join the offensively challenged B10.

If you don't like the matchup, don't watch. Nobody is holding a gun to your head telling you to watch. I'm happy with more football.

I didn't watch it, that is what my original response was, but yet you must have missed that.

More football doesn't make me happy, more goodder football makes me happy.

The watered down matchups with too many bowls just doesn't do it for me.
 


Here is a novel idea, don't start watching until Jan 1.

Girls basketball is not appealing to watch, so I just don't watch it.

That doesn't make any sense. What happens in the Meineke Car Bowl does nothing to change what happens in the Rose Bowl. If you only want gooder football, only watch the goodest football.

That is why I don't watch a lot of bowl games as they are dreadful to watch.

When teams had to have a winning record to make a bowl game, couple that with less games you didn't see 3-7 matchups between conferences. If there is money to be had, they won't go away.

Right, but you saw fewer bowl games. So again, having a 6-6 vs. 6-6 game does nothing to change the other games. They don't change anything, but obviously you care since you post about it.

I get it. You didn't watch it, but you still want to pizz and moan about it. Because it's your God given right to pizz and moan and this is after all a free message board where sides of differing opinions are encouraged to post to incite valid discussion. So carry on sir. Your crusade against mediocre bowl football is warmly received here on HN.

Fewer games mean teams that are 6-6 most likely don't get in...did you miss when I stated a remember when you had to have a winning record and a 7-4 season teams didn't get in.

I care to see better football, not mediocre teams getting rewarded, but like I said if there is money to be made those pitiful games won't go away.

Just want to see better games, that is it.

You have a different view, one where you must enjoy watching football a lot more than I do and it makes sense given one factor.

Look, I just remember when growing up that you had to have a better than mediocre year to make a bowl, it seemed to mean a lot more. Now with the insane amount of money that is poured into sponsorship and the creation of some of the new bowls it just isn't the same that's all.
 


I hate Dancing With The Stars, the wife has to watch every damn episode and fills up my DVR with that crap.

I remember it too. But it has evolved into whatever you want to call it now. You want just good bowl games, and that is fine. Like I said, you don't need to watch these early games and in the end, the good games will be on as we approach the New Years. I however, enjoy watching football, so I really don't mind watching these lower tier matchups. Sometimes you get watch a gem now and then in these lower tier bowls.

The Holiday Bowl used to be that bowl, the game outside the Big 4 that everyone wanted to see. The game that I remember the most was the BYU/Iowa game, but there were many classics in that matchup.
