bowl projections + tie ins

IMO - if we are giving out contracts with players for NIL and there is no wording around players just quitting on the team with games to go, then what are we even doing here? I am all for NIL and dudes getting paid, but like you have to play to get that imo. If you don't you face repercussions. That's how the adult world works.
Maybe if they went to player contracts in a general sense (not just private NIL contracts, I'm talking the eventuality of contracts coming from schools), that could be part of the contract. Let it be up to the player to purchase NFL salary insurance. You couldn't give it to everyone by default because if a third-stringer got hurt in a bowl game you'd open yourself up to bogus claims and have no concrete way to fight it.

My totally ignorant guess would be that Colby, Jones, and Richman will play. Olinemen are a different breed.
I've seen Jones and Colby projected as high as round 4, it would be a tough decision for me. But I'm 44 and not a 22 year old dude full of piss and vinegar anymore.

I think this bowl game could also be fun to watch Moulton and Patterson get a "full" game as RB1 and RB2. See what it's going to be like next year without KJ. Obviously I'd like to get a win for the record, but at this point it really doesn't matter anymore. This is going to be an exhibition game from both sides probably.

Kirk mentioned that Higgins was likely going to be like LaPorta and that is impossible to keep out of another Hawkeye game. I personally think it's dangerous to do and I wouldn't if I was in that spot...but again, I strongly feel if you're being paid to play for the University of Iowa, you should have to fulfil your obligation to the team, or again, forfeit your NIL.

What other jobs can you not fulfill your obligation or service and still get paid? Legally? and free of counter suits? I am guessing things will change when the schools become their chief W2 employer in the new world.

Iowa vs. Texas A & M
Iowa vs. Ole Miss
Iowa vs Alabama

I have seen all 3 games being tossed out. I just don’t want a repeat of last year’s game against Tennessee. That sucked. Iowa’s first team starters getting worked by Tennessee’s 2nd teammers and dudes that weren’t going to be on the roster in 2024, that wasn’t fun for me. Just give me a entertaining game, where Iowa competes, and I really don’t care about the outcome.

I likely won’t attend, but I sure as hell would watch the game, especially vs Alabama.

I know I am a voice crying in the wilderness, but I will repeat
my views on bowl games, even though the climate has changed.

A bowl game doubles the number of practices for winter and spring. That is gold.
The players who will return in 2025 will learn where they stand.
The coaches will gather valuable information. The portal is the center of attention for them both.

This ain’t about you and your whining about meaningless bowl games. They will be played. Most of the team will be there. Power 4 Athletes always want to win. Pride counts. Lots of fans will go and they won’t care what you think.

Yes. I know some players will opt out. No criticism from me on that. I just don’t care. Do the players and coaches care? Those who opt out will be responsible for their actions. Real life.

Bowl games have always been a good faith effort to challenge and reward the players. That has not changed. January: Tampa, San Diego, Miami, Nashville, Vegas, Arizona, or Iowa City and Coralville? Hmm.

There you go.

I don't have anything against the games being played, they just don't interest me anymore. I grew up in the 80s, and there were 12 bowl games.

Rose
Orange
Cotton
Peach
Sugar
Fiesta
Sun
Gator
Citrus
Independence
Liberty
Holiday

Making one of them meant that you were one of the best 24 teams in the country and you had to earn a spot to one. It was a reward for tough achievement, not a .500 record. I know I'm speaking to the choir that they don't mean what they used to, it's just impossible for me to get excited anymore like I did in the 80s. That was a great part of my childhood bonding with my dad every Christmas season watching bowl games with him at the end of the year, and also getting to watch the Hawks earn those spots. I still want the Hawkeyes to win, but nowadays with the uber-oversaturated bowl schedule, NIL, and huge guaranteed NFL salaries there are too many asterisks for me to think it's an overly special deal.

But now it's gone from the Orange, cotton, and Peach to the "68 Ventures Bowl," "GameAbove Sports Bowl," and the "Gasparilla Bowl." Teams with losing records make it.

At this point, why don't we just say that every team can play in one post season game and let them all decide when/where/matchups? 63% of FBS teams qualify now anyway. That would be more fun in my opinion.

I'd be all for going back to the 12 big games we had before being considered actual bowl games which you could obviously keep part of the playoffs, and then just allow teams to have winter exhibition games like they are now that don't count for/against your record.
