Dumb question: Would he be able to recruit some, even though he is not ''a coach" or he is strickly video cord. and adm asst? Could you post a detail description of his actual job? I understand the video part part not the rest.

This is shaping up to be one heck of a basketball staff...some serious experience on the bench. A successful D1 head coach who played at Iowa in the 70s, a savy young recruiter who's worked with Coach Caf before, and an ex-Hawkeye from the 90s who's an NBA veteran. Lots of ground covered there.

Ryan's willingness to come aboard in an admin asst role really strengthens the team and leaves one more slot for another quality assistant. Team ball from the consumate team player.

Nice.

Yes...a middle of the road NBA'er with no coaching experience.... where have I heard that story before??? Congrats to Ryan and good luck to the Franatics

Fran is slowly putting pieces together. I know it is hard waiting for news and decsions, but you would have to be very pleased with what he has done so far. I for one am looking forward to next year. This hire is a classy one.

We just went from a 20 something former walk-on as the video coordinator (Justin Wieck) to a Hawkeye favorite that has almost a decade of experience in the NBA. I can see why you think this is a step down...

Yup. One could make the case that our video coordinator/AA is qualified to be head coach at ISU.

I think there is a bit of a difference in hiring that profile as a video coordinator compared to a head coach. GREAT HIRE!

*“I remember watching Ryan play in high school, and followed his career at Iowa and the NBA.* There isn’t a harder working basketball player that understands the game than Ryan Bowen."

Seriously Fran did not watch him play in high school.

Don't know for sure, but I would imagine he did as the asst. coach at ND. He seems to have been in on some Iowa talent during his tenure there.

And your basing this take on...what, exactly?

Because you followed Fran around in the 90s?

Well, perhaps then you should offer up your opinion of how good or bad a player Bown was in high school. With a statment like that, you obviously saw him play many times as a young man, and have also been blessed with a photographic memory to remember something that happened 20 years ago so vivdly.
