We all know that if Kirk played for OT we would be complaining about KF not playing to win. He coached to win today, and I hate to say it but the loss was on Rudock today, he made a bad decision and unfortunately it cost us. Kirk was playing to win by throwing the ball at the end and now everyone is complaining that we should have ran it. Defense overall played good, it certainly wasn't perfect but they put us in a situation to win the game today by stopping a good QB who led his team to a BCS bowl last season. Offense played alot better today than I expected. A Hawkeye loss will always hurt. Room for improvement, and NIU is better than alot of B1G teams. I can't really call this loss on coaching, offense, or defense, ONE lucky play for NIU won them this game and we couldn't get a break.

I didn't mind throwing the ball. I hate this horizontal passing game. It just doesn't work.

I think for his first game Rudock played good and shows a lot of potential. Too bad for the bad pass at the end of the game. With so little time left in the game it would have been tough to run the ball there on the 45 yrd line.

Having said that though it was obvious that NIU's defense was gambling and trying to jump routes. A pump and go would have been the correct call in that situation. If mistakes were made it was before that last drive. They were worn down and we were clearly moving the ball on the ground successfully but for some reason we went away from that on the two previous offensive possessions. Also it was proven time and time again that NIU's QB doesn't react well to heavy pressure and that he panicked and throws bad passes. So after we went up 27-20 why did we go into that vanilla four man rush which put no pressure on their QB and let him pick us apart??????

These two things (not running the ball and letting up on defense when we had the lead cost us the game and both were coaching mistakes not player mistakes.

Giving up 30 points = Playing good.
What?

What?? The game I watched they gave up 3 long TD pass receptions! They let 3 get up over the top of them. That's not good D.

The defense was on the field the entire 2nd half and the offense turned it over 3 times. Not to mention both of our starting CB's were injured....the defense was far from perfect, but overall I thought they played fairly well.

The following week will be interesting though...BTW I know your making a point with the snark, which us justified...just thought I would keep it Rollin...

It was a tough loss. Many, including myself, were expecting a win and a little momentum boost.

Certainly the game outcome was the sum of many plays.

But that last play call was a stupid, stupid decision, as I posted elsewhere, because it had minimal upside with huge downside at that stage. The game was tied. If you wanted to be aggressive, throw long where a pickoff likely just sends you to OT.

The math was not complicated. Coaching FAIL.
