Both teams have had 2 weeks to prepare for each other

Which team benefits the most from the extra time and why?

I honestly don't think either team will greatly benefit ... Outside of letting players heal a bit. Statistically these two teams are about as close as you can get.

iowa after bye weeks is not impressive. We lost willies, daniels during the bye week. People are generally down on the program. Hopefully the players are not. I assume they will come out with a good effort, but if we score our usual 13-21 pts against northwestern we will lose.

I think Iowa will benefit and I think Jewell will lock down the LB spot over Spearman. Spearman has been a disappointment this year. He gets beat on passing plays and over-pursues on running plays.

From some of the player interviews it sounds like they have gotten some things corrected and have had some good practices. The oline sounded like they are ready to beat someone down after the way they played at Maryland.

You could give Iowa 2 years and it wouldn't change the gameplan. Kirk loves to beat his head against a wall, sometimes its drywall and sometimes its cinder blocks but he never stops.

NW knows Iowa will roll out the same poop they have had success against in the past, so I'm not really sure this will help them beyond just an extra week to get some springs back in their legs.

On the Iowa side, in theory this will give us an extra week to prepare for any new wrinkles NW has implemented this year...but again, Iowa is just gonna roll out the same poop again anyways, so it doesnt matter.

Conclusion: no advantage...meaning this game will play out exactly how you think it will: Iowa will be up 10-0 early in the 2nd quarter, but Ferrets will be coaching like its 70-0. By the 4th quarter, Iowa will be clinging to something like a 17-14 lead and it'll be a total coin flip from there. Sweet jeebus I don't want to watch. :(

Imagine the film room sessions where a team captain and "leader" at MLB is getting chewed out for blowing play after play.

Not to jump your case--and it's probably just a matter of seeing WAY much negativity on this site this season--but...don't watch?

I GET that this season has been everything BUT what most of us were hoping, and I GET that, in some respects, many of us over-valued some personnel/position groups, and I GET that our offense is no good and that Jake Rudock has no business playing QB in the B1G--just ask ThunderHawk--but seriously, if it pains you that much, don't watch. DVR/TiVo it, check the final score--via the mega-numbers of sites/sources/highlight shows/bottom-line "scrawls"/etc.--and then decide whether you "want" to watch it.

That's how I've done basketball since Alford was coach (started with my high-tech VCR recordings back then). And with the ability to fast-forward and "control" the replay much better with DVR/TiVo, commercials are easier to skip, as are the down times between plays. OK, this might not work if you're doing it for Baylor or Oregon :)

Hate to admit it ... considering I have been a diehard for 35 years ... but more than once or twice I just DVRd the skipped through the b.s. I just get too worked up watching Iowa sometimes and it's not good to get that worked up. Plus, with the 127 commerical breaks during any given game, when I have it on DVR I can watch the game in about an hour and save time and heartache :) ...

I dumped cable years ago, best decision I ever made. Pay for channels and still have to watch commercials, no thanks. If I need to see a game I watch at the gym.

Both teams are bad on offense, which is odd for Northwestern. They have a decent defense. Weather doesn't appear to be a factor, but it could change in a few days (Mainly the wind).

Iowa has yet to play a real good QB. I've always thought that if Iowa plays a QB who is accurate, we struggle. Of course this year we've knocked a few out of the game so that's one way to solve the problem. But if NW QB has time, he'll do what all NW of the past did against us....dink and dunk and drive us nuts.

I think this could be a real ugly game, much like last year. Low scoring, turnovers decide it. NW was driving for the winning score last year and fumbled....so guess we'll see.

we know this much....every game is pretty much the same. expect a one score difference

The BIGGEST reason I still DVR games is because, watching at our local "Hawkeye Club", it's impossible to hear everything coming from TV, AND I can later watch in peace, and (most important) SKIP HALF-TIME show!

Yeah, wouldn't want to miss Joey Galloway and Beth Mowins' insightful commentary, or whatever Z-team group is calling the game on ESPN El Nuevo.
