Boeheim Calls Andy Katz An Idiot

What was that all about? He must have wrote somthing about Jim or the team that ****** him off.

Pretty bad though when you have no idea what it's about and he hasn't even talked to the guy in over a year. He be butt hurt though for something

I don't like either guy.

Katz is a major league jock sniffer. His infatuation with Alford was borderline creepy.

Jim Boeheim is always seemingly bitter, which is just plain weird for a guy who's won a National Title and is one of the winningest coaches of all time. One of those guys who's got everything, but is never happy.

I seem to remember during the Alford years that too. Katz is nuts. I understand Boeheim woulda been grouchy after that game but there was certainly something more to his reaction to Katz then that.

Katz showed up at that postgame PC for this reaction. He knew damn well how Boeheim would respond to him and he got his reaction and headlines.

That's an awful lot of speculation on your part. I somehow doubt he was fishing for "You're an idiot." He covered the game for ESPN, I'm guessing he was kind of supposed to be at the presser. He's also the sideline reporter for the Big East Tournament. But I suppose he's only doing that for a reaction, too.

The problem is fans and consumers of any type of media want it both ways.

AS a "journalist" Katz is suppossed to ask the tough questions and get to the bottom of things. He gets criticized and then "black-balled" by Boheim for going to far.

If he doesn't ask the questions and get the story he (and ESPN) gets crucified. Lose-Lose situation.

On the other hand all the coaches and AD's and professionals want to control and have the media report it their way. Without the media, the attention, the TV and radio these coaches would still be only making $75 K a year and be nothing.

Its really not speculation at all. Boeheim told Kats he would never talk to him again after the interview 2 years ago. Katz called Boeheim many times, left messages, never returned the call. Katz calls again, Boeheim finally answers and before Katz can get a word in Boeheim tells him to never call or talk to him again and hangs up. Now what do you suspect Katz thought Boeheim's response would be to him actually showing up at his postgame PC??

Yes and No.

Somewhere along the line this "the public has a right to know" crap got started. (likely by reporters) There is no "right to know" everything. (The bastardization of the term "rights" is another thread)

Secondarily "journalists" (I'll use the term loosely) have become increasingly self-righteous (see point #1). If Boeheim (who I don't particularly care for) asked the guy to go away..or whatever, he's clearly just there to tweak him. Reporting and news has increasingly become about the reporter, not the content. And even more so...about selling your airtime or papers. Consequently ethics and good practice often take a back seat.
