I recently moved from AZ to Iowa. I've been told that the path thru the north end isn't safe any more. Threats about being in the hood!

They just remodeled the whole thing, spent a lot of federal funds from the 2011 flash flood, soent the last five years redoing the "bee branch" canal. It's like the rest of the north end of Dubuque. Look for trouble and you will find it.
I've heard only a couple incidents on that trail and they were all well after dark when you shouldn't be on it anyway, especially drinking.

Wow, hadn't heard that! Sorry to hear about it. There's a middle school nearby and many kids use that trail to walk to and from school.
I grew up in the Sacred Heart/Comiskey park area of town and spent many hours of my youth hanging out and playing sports down there. I guess that was then.
Go down there on a summer evening now and you will see the requisite signs of the "hood" or the "ghetto". But there is also heavy police presence, bicycle officers in the summer, and neighborhood watch type programs.

I hate to see this. I live in Marion now but still love DBQ.

Lots of new and exciting things going on in other parts of town. Compared to the eighties, when outdated city management finally caught up and local economy was bad and unemployment high.
