Bob Bowlsby just made me puke!

So you somehow think playing in the Am Athletic IS the same as playing in the B1G or SEC?

The whole "they beat Auburn, who beat Bama & Georgia, so they deserve to be in the cfp" argument is stupid. Does anybody believe Auburn was as motivated to play UCF as they were to play Bama or Georgia?

It took UCF two overtimes to beat Memphis for their conference title, in a game played in UCF's stadium. ISU only needed regulation to beat Memphis in a bowl game played at Memphis' stadium. So, ISU is clearly better than UCF. Does ISU get a title shot? But wait, the Hawks beat ISU at their place! Iowa deserves a title shot!!

^^ Still, IMO, no Div 1 FBS team that goes undefeated should be left out at having a chance to play for the National Championship. What more could they do to prove themselves and the players should have that chance. In addition, it is unfair for recruiting. Why would certain players choose to play for a UCF if they are guaranteed to never have a legit shot.

Anyone who cites to the transitive property of equality when discussing sports should be immediately understood to be a person who knows nothing about sports, unless of course doing so results in Iowa getting a shot at the National Championship, in which case, good job Hawkeye87.

UCF is like Nebraska in the Big8. Play a couple of good teams per year and a bunch of cupcakes for a shot at the NC.

Only UCF wasn’t playing OK and TX caliber teams in the AACK — it’s is a one-off.

Welcome home Frost. Only you’re not riding your horse into the Big8 or AACK.

I'm not one to say that UCF is a top 4 team worthy of playing for a championship. With that said however, IMO based on what was laid out by the committee leading up to the selection, UCF did more to earn that spot in the playoffs then Alabama did.

Whether UCF belonged or not they ran the table and won their conference. Whether a brutal schedule ,or not and proved it by winning each and every week. Bama was on the outside of the top 4 with a loss, failing to win their division and were participating in the final (and what should have been the most important) week of the season from the comfort of their athletic facility sitting on their ass watching other teams take care of business.

Regardless of what happened to the other teams in front of them, Bama did absolutely nothing to get themselves into the that playoff spot. Do I think Bama will win it all...Yes. Do I think Bama is/was the best team in the county...Yes. Do I think they played a schedule that gave them the benefit of the doubt of being considered without winning their division. No. But they did beat Mercer 56-0 before losing to Auburn so that should remove all doubt.

It's a 4 team playoff...Teams are going to be left out, but that said being undefeated should speak for itself. UCF did all they could do and that was run the table. Bama slid into the playoffs by sitting at home. I have zero problems whatsoever with any argument stating UCF was more deserving to get in than Bama.

This is exactly why current the playoff system sucks. Look at March Madness and the success it has. One big reason is lots of "lower Tier" teams who make it have a chance and almost everyone likes to root for the underdog. It still burns me that Alabama is in and they didn't even win their own conference. We still need more teams in the playoff and the playoff needs to start earlier and end earlier. The championship game should have been last weekend. Even though Saban is whining about the short break, that would be a moot point if they didn't have a month plus break at the end of the season and could provide better spacing. The only reason the Super Bowl has a longer break after the conference finals for all the TV BS and media hype. The playoff should be at least 8 teams with even a possibility of moving up to 16. Year to year it is going to vary on what the best number is.

What I would also like to see is the first 1-2 rounds being at the home stadium of the higher seed. Once the semifinals start the current system is fine with the bowl tie ins. I think it would be interesting to see some of the southern teams coming up to the north for once and playing a game that really matters where the weather is cold and unhospitable

The underlying thing in competition is that winning should be the most important factor. Not prestige, who the coach is, history, or what conference a team is affiliated with. While it may not be about who is most deserving and finding the best team, when you put together a committee of talking heads and let them talk each week about the shape of where they are at in the selection process for them to have Alabama on the outside looking in and then moving up based on absolutely nothing they did on the field proves the way the playoffs are run is a joke.

Jesus Christ already.

Play an 8 team playoff made up of P5 champs and the 3 non-P5 teams with the best records and tie breakers after that.

It's not that hard. If a team in the Sun Belt or wherever bitches that they won their conference but didn't get in because they didn't have as good a record, then tough taters.

Yea, I didn't want my response to go into the whole playoff debate but knew it would spur thoughts. It doesn't suck now as it is the closest we have been to deciding the winner on the field but still needs redefined a bit to be the fairest. I think 8 is the best with all P5 conferences sending their champion. Have 3 at large left for the UCF's of the world. 16 would be watering down the regular season a bit. Right now, every conference game is important and fans on the edges of their seats (most teams). I don't want when a team can lose 2-3 games and be thinking they might still be fine to get in. I like the importance of all games.

Welcome to college football. It's not the NFL. They're not trying for parity.

It's still wrong for a Div 1 FBS school to not have a chance to play for it if they go undefeated. In that case, move those schools down to a different level then. It's ludicrous.

UCF apparently also had this really dynamic high-profile offense. You can't say they wouldn't have a shot at it. But, we will never know. I don't care if it's a shot in the dark, they should have a chance if they are designated as a Div 1 FBS team. Screw the "What if's" they played in this conference or that. They played in Div 1 FBS and grouped with all the other Div 1 FBS. It isn't like we are trying to get an undefeated North Dakota State to play in the final 4.

I know it. It bugs the flying F out of me. It is not that hard and this is the most simple and fair solution. Nobody could really bitch. It would still make EVERY game in the P5 conference schedule important plus give any outlier teams a chance if have a great season. I don't get how they can't F'ing implement this.

They could play tougher non-conference games (UCF played Austin Peay, seriously), but it isn't their fault the Maine and GaTech games were cancelled by hurricane stuff, either.

The reason certian players choose to play for UCF? Several, actually. Miami/UF/FSU rosters are "full", as well as those of Bama/Georgia/et. al. Some may have "deficiencies" that prevent bigger name schools from offering. And of course, Scott Frost and, prior to that, George O'Leary, both of whom proved themselves as good recruiters and coaches.

And it answers the bigger question: why would a kid play for a school where he doesn't have a shot at a national championship/playoff slot? Easy answer: there are only so many slots available at the blue-blood schools.

Great post.

The last point (teams having to go north) ,is an excellent one. How well would Miami or F$U do playing in Madison in December? The problem? I think you might see "northern" teams "ranked" in the lower half of the rankings on a consistent basis. Let's face it, the "committee"--whatever its make-up--is rarely that good at hiding intent or bias.

Imagine the B1G CG being a matchup of two undefeated teams. Now, picture them being ranked in top 4 to 6. Now, imagine a 17-14 game. How hard would it be for the "committee" to drop the winner below the top 4 so a one-loss Bama doesn't have to go "north"?

It's still better than an example like PSU in 1994, where they lost their #1 ranking because they took their foot off the gas in one game and only beat Indiana 35-29 (and it wasn't really close). Or Michigan being a consensus #1 all season, then "sharing" the title after public pleading from its coach and QB.

Frankly, Frost got his wish as a player, not as a coach.

Shoulda be 3 wild card teams of any conference. There is no way in hell Bama would be left out of any playoff bracket this year.
