Block or charge on Nigel Hayes?

Should be a charge but under the rules it absolutely was a block. The rules on charges have continued to develop and become more convoluted, and now the defender's feet matter a whole lot more than they should. If the defender's feet are set in time, plays that should never be called fouls are called offensive fouls. If the defender's feet are on a certain piece of tape on the floor, the ball handler can barrel in the lane out of control and lower his shoulder into the defender but it will be called a block.

The charge call in college basketball was out of control. Putting in the restricted area was a great start. You had WAY to many cheap charging calls in college ball and was making it un watchable. You had scrub players sliding under guys when they were in the air which was dangerous.

I think now with even more emphasis on calling less charged it makes it a hard call to make on some plays at full speed. Really becomes a 50/50 call.

I agree and I think the secondary defender issue needed addressed. However, in my opinion we now have players driving out of control to draw contact because they know the rules favor the offensive player.

It was a block but one of White's layups he was arm barred by a Wisconsin player meaning it should have been and and-1 opportunity. The refs just make up what contact they are going to let go and what they are going to call.

Yeah, I don't know the best way to deal with it. I am just glad to not see 8 charging calls a game in college ball.

It's tough because if they start calling more charges it would make players more hesitant to drive and it would be closer to the game of the 80s which was no contact and the mid range jump shots. On the other hand there has to be an appreciation for the evolution of the game and the drive and excitement of the dunk.

Approximately 1 play out of 80 plays (1 play every 30 seconds) isn't so important in the scheme of things during a basketball game. Gotta give Wisconsin their due for holding the ball almost until a shot clock violation on practically every posssession.

If Iowa could just play better defense. Or rebound. Or not choke when the game was on the line. Sorry, I'm coming down from a real high of expectation of today's game.

The real deciding factor in today's game was fundamentals.
