This team needed time to grow. We barely beat Gardiner-Webb, remember?

I think Fran had the right strategy. The team just needed to win a few (or maybe even just 1) of their close games.

We beat GW by 9. Illinois beat GW by 2, and they're a lock for the tournament. That's not a very good example. If we had won at Minnesota and played every other game the same, we would be in.

This isnt exactly true.

Say Iowa plays a slightly tougher non-con schedule and goes 9-4 or 8-5. The SOS and RPI would be better but we would also be talking about a team with an overall record of 17-13 or 16-14. I dont think that team would be considered in the tourney either.

If Iowa exchanges their four games of 300+ wins for games against schools in the 100's, then there OOC schedule wouldn't be killing their SOS.

Play games against teams like
#98 Harvard, #112 Princeton, #141 Drake, and #148 Boston University. Heck, take a gamble and drop the two 200+ teams and take on #25 Middle Tennessee State and #42 Boise State.

Shouldn't Iowa be 6-0 against that schedule? I dunno. Iowa dropped Drake so maybe it is a too large a gamble for a sure-win 300+ verses a should be sure win 100+.
