Black 'N' Gold Out

You could tell in the Bosie St. Game not everyone wore the right color, but it still looked fantastic. I think only two colors will look even better.

Does anybody have a link that shows which section is wearing which color? I need to check my section to make sure I'm dressed in the right color.

maybe everyone here should bring an extra shirt to lend to stupid people around them who wear the wrong color.

If the U of I is serious about getting this to work, they need to do two things.

1. Mass advertising, even here in Des Moines where they rarely advertise. Radio, television, take out ads in the Register. If people don't know, they won't do it.

2. Print up a t-shirt for the occasion, and put them on every seat. Perhaps gold pom-poms for the the folks wearing black, black for the folks wearing gold.

shada- i love that alternating pom poms idea. i was thinking the same thing earlier today. but i agree that it should be on tv 9,2,7 here in eastern iowa and they should put something on the news out west too.

This.

They need to use every media outlet at their disposal to make this work. This should include asking local TV stations to have their sports directors mention this on their sportcasts this week.

We as fans need to do our part as well. I'm making sure that everyone that I know who is going to the game gets this info, and I'm asking them to spread the word as well.

This will look friggin awesome if we can get everyone to buy into the idea.

The Hawks greatly under advertise in the DesMoines area...it's like they're taking pity on the Clones and trying to help them lay claim to central Iowa or something. It disturbs me more than it should, but I don't like it one bit.

It kinds of makes sense, ISU is trying to get the casual fan to make the trip to Ames, and two things are coming into play there.

1. ISU needs butts in the seats, and the "casual" fan is more likely to drive 40 minutes to Ames as opposed to Iowa City.

2. Iowa doesn't need butts in the seats.

Agreed. Two will look better and with the game being at night it is really going to show. Plus, Boise St. didn't alternate sections for the whole stadium. There were about 4 sections in a row in the upper deck that were only blue.

I should note that I dont' expect Iowa to do anything of the sort. If you look at Hawkeyesports.com right now, it's not even mentioned.

1. Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, I don't think that's their approach (nor has it ever been). And if this doesn't work out this will be the reason. When they announced this a few months back I thought their efforts should have been more robust.

2. Simply not financially feasible. Even if they could score the shirts for $1 (and that's pushing it), were talking $70,500 for t-shirts. Not sure they'd drop that kind of money for t-shirts.

a simple email by barta to students and season ticket holders is a very easy way to get the word out. quite frankly if a student isn't wearing black they are complete morons

Black and Gold poms for corresponding sections would work great. I think they should make shirts as well. I don't think they'll ever hadn out free shirts but they could have guys selling them in teh sections like a consession guy selling sodas. That way those that forget or didn't know don't have an excuse

Yeah the marketing dept. pretty much sits on their collective hands 24/7.

My guess is there will be a small mention of it in the papers on Friday or Saturday, but I'm not sure how that will actually work.

Personally, I like all gold with black poms.

Sure it is, one home game brings in 3 million dollars just in ticket sales.
